Winter camping in West Virginia

Found a real nice KOA open in the winter. KOA in West Virginia Flatwoods
This is a really nice KOA with pull thru sites, concrete patio pads and heated water supply for winter hookups. The restrooms are new and clean. This location is also a Day's INN Conference Center so KOA guests have full use of the pool, spa,weight and other facilities.There is a restaurant and pub located in the hotel also. Breakfast is supposed to be $7 for campers(free for hotel guests) but they did not charge me for breakfast today. With my KOA card, $108 including tax for 3 nights, full hookups. They have heated water spigots at each site so you can either connect your own heated hose or fill you tank. Wi/FI is also included, cable is in progress. Really clean campground and at night there is a roving watch person who makes hourly rounds, really feel secure here, although we are in the middle of nowhere in the West Virginia mountains, up maybe 1500 feet above sea level.
There is also an open air amphitheater for summer concerts and out door pool both of which are closed now for the season.

By the way, today it is high of 38 with wind gusts up to 30 mph, tomorrow 23/15 and the next day 15/5 with snow squalls. The Escape is nice and toasty with new electric wall heater and factory propane furnace as back up. No condensation yet, but I do have a window cracked and the Maxxair open. Franklin and Heshey are asleep on the floor because the new heater keeps it warm down there. I installed it under my dinette bench seat.

Sounds fun! We've had similar conditions when working on the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation in South Dakota in March (sleeping in our UHaul), but we didn't have the spa/pool! I actually like using the trailer through all kinds of temperatures, but my wife really prefers warm temps.

Yeah Jim, I do. When I have the time I go over and spend an afternoon with them, fix something or whatnot.

I showed them the pictures of my ParkLiner today and in 3 weeks when my homebilt gypsy caravan is gone, it will be moved up to their driveway. Down the road I will probably end up living in it part time when 1 of them passes... this way we both will have some privacy, yet at the same time will be right there if there is an issue.

Jim, I am so glad you enjoyed your winter trip! I love West VA for camping, although I rough it. Sounds like you were in the lap of luxury.

Glad you didn't get the snow! As I mentioned on the Escape Forum, I suspect it all landed here in Oswego. There is definitely something wrong here when the temperature outdoors is lower than that in my freezer!

I spent New Years weekend camping outside Charlottesville VA visiting my son. It wasn't bad during the day but fell into the 20's at night.





This was my first weekend in my Casita. I'm in Florida now and the weather is much nicer.

Hi: cpaharley2008... Yes...Thanks for asking. She got the stitches out mon. You really don't know how dangerous a coffee pot can be till you break it!!! Tests are on going as to why the sudden plunge into darkness. The Dr's. going to give her a stress test...but I think I need one too.
Glad you didn't freeze in W.Va. This is ideal weather conditions to harvest grapes for "Ice Wine". They're busy picking in the night, in the Niagara Region, but it won't be ready till 2014 Niagara Wine Escape.
