Labor day week end and last warm weather holiday of summer. Let every one here at fiberglass rv hear about your favorite camping trip of the summer. We are retired and stay home on holiday weekends and leave the campgrounds to the ones that work.

Like you we rarely travel at all during the summer, certainly not on Labor Day. We reserve the summer holidays for family since we're on the road most of the year.

Without a doubt the highlight of our travel year was our 2 month Spring trip to Newfoundland.

We were scared of the crowds and went to a fairly remote spot. There was one other couple in a 5th wheel on the other side of the campground and that was it. It was a complete coincidence that our camper was ready and I picked that weekend. We dont work traditional jobs so it was a little scary when we realized it was a holiday weekend but not many were brave enough to camp at 11k feet pushing into sept I guess.

We are just setting out on our big adventure for the year - left San Diego Saturday night, headed for a wedding outside of Seattle on the 7th, then meandering down the Washington, Oregon and California coasts, planning to be back home not later than 10/5 so we can get Casita Bella cleaned up for the Lake Casitas rally.

Plans are a bit loosey-goosey once the wedding festivities are done, but will most definitely include the Olympic Penninsula, Astoria, a grilled cheese sandwich in Tillamook, Redwood National Park and Mt. Madonna. We made it as far as Red Bluff, CA today - traffic surprisingly light - and hope that everyone else will be headed the other way tomorrow ... Happy Memorial Day to all!

As part of our summer - fall trek across the US we are in Sequim, WA this weekend at a small private RV park since all the state parks were full-up when we started looking for reservations.

Today we went to Port Townsend, drove through Fort Worden and stopped at Wilson Point Lighthouse. Tomorrow we head into the Olympic National Forest Rain Forest for the day.

So far, the trip to Mt. Rainier for the day has been the highlight for me. Mr. 2yax sez the 3 week trek up the rocky, rugged, beautiful Oregon Coast has been his highlight.

We will head east across the more northern states beginning on Tuesday.

Summer started earlier than normal this year. April found in La Page park on the John Day River where it dumps into the Columbia. May found us on the Metolius River near Camp Sherman, Oregon. The first of June we went to Kennewick, WA where I taught a couple wood carving classes. Later in June at Pine Mountain Observatory outside of Bend Oregon. The last trip was to the Rouge River above Gold Beach, Oregon. The shortest trips were to Pine Mountain and Kennewick, WA 4 nights each. We'll probably go someplace in a couple weeks, then again in another month. All that before we take off for the winter in January.
We try to use the Scamp a lot, but it's never quite enough.

If we plan on staying someplace less than a week, we leave before the week-end. We like to leave the campgrounds to families with kids in the summer. La Page was early so no kids, Metolius was also early. Kennewick was at Washington State's Benton County Fair ground and a carving event, Pine Mountain was all geocachers having a big party. Rogue River was 10 days so it was over one week-end. The place was crowded and remained crowded. We might have stayed a bit longer but decided to leave it the families.

Good to hear from other campers. I have found that a lot of retires stay home on holidays . Camping is our hobby. Been camping about 48 years. Some of our best camping trips are like some of you do No planes just go We also will take off and go at a spur of the moment. We also plan some long trips. Our longest was 12, 000 miles . that was to Alaska. good to hear about your trips thunter

We only got out once together this summery we went to jersy shore. Spent every day surfing, swimming, and lounging on the beach. It was great fun.

we don't "do" campgrounds in the summer. we have our own property on a beautiful river and also have a lovely, deep swimming hole. we spend as much time as we can up there, sitting in our floater chairs in the river, reflecting on life in general and ours in particular. and the best part---peace and quiet. we save our trips to campgrounds for the shoulder season. but we did travel to the northeastern US this june and spent a few days with wonderful friends in madison ohio. can't get much better than that.

Hi: theresa p... Did you pick up some Maple Syrup while in Madison Oh.? It is 90 mi. directly south of us... but that's a long swim!!!

Hi: All... This June found us in British Columbia picking up our 2014 Escape 5.0TA. The trip of a lifetime. Camping nirvana!!!
We delivered our 5.0 to new owners in Manitoba and carried on cross country by truck to Chilliwack BC. New trailer in tow, we headed to the Escape Rally@ NK' Mip (sounds like Inkameep) campground in Osoyoos BC. Canada's desert. Then to Waterton-Glacier National Peace Pk. Then on to Yellowstone and back to Ontario. Been camping most every weekend all summer. So... that's where the summer went??

Our highlight vacation this year was a week in London, 2 weeks in Scotland and a week in Montreal which included the Canadian F1 Grand Prix ... oh you mean camping trip

My highlight trip was driving from Calgary for a visit to the Escape factory, then down the Washington, Oregon coast to the Oregon Gathering, then driving back via Highway 97 through the interior of Oregon & Washington. This was an awesome trip

So nice to read all these reports from folks getting out and enjoying their trailers and seeing the country! As for us, we started out the year with an Easter weekend trip with some good friends who have an Escape 19. Stayed at a nearby park and enjoyed beautiful weather and a sparsely occupied campground. Then a short 5 day spur of the moment trip in May to eastern Washington. In June we met up with family on the Oregon coast for 4 days and then went on to eastern Oregon for a few days, then looped back up to home. Crummy weather on that trip. In July we attended the Bellingham Ukulele Group's (BUG) camp-out at a local county park. Lots of fun! Then last month we spent 4 days at Mt Rainier National Park - the highlight trip of the summer!

We're now getting ready to head out on Friday for a two-month trip down into the canyon lands and red rock country of southern Utah and northern Arizona. Highlight I think will be a visit to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon!

This year my "Summer Trip" actually started last October. I spent the winter in Arizona along the Colorado River, and the summer all over the west. Had a great time, and after 304 days, am back in Oswego. For anyone interested, a journal of the trip starts here.

Due to other commitments this camping season which normally runs from early April to December I have so far only managed to get out for about 45 nights of camping r - hope to have the number into the 60's by the time the trailer is put to bed for the winter.

Started out by attending the Spring Northern Oregon Meet in April and tagged a couple of extra days onto that trip to Silver Falls State park in Oregon. In May and June I attended a couple of 3 day Vintage trailer meets in BC out in the lower mainland valley as well as a couple in central Washington state. Did some dry camping with friends out on the Chilliwack River for a few days.

Spent 3 weeks in late July and early August on Vancouver Island - due to dry hot weather I spent a lot of time enjoying the beaches in Tofino and Qualicham, along with some time at Englishman River. Also a couple of 3 day trips into Washington with friends at Washington state parks located on beaches to get away from the hot weather we were experiencing here in Vancouver. Went to Harrison Hot Springs here in BC last week-end and enjoyed a few days of music at the Bands on the Beach festival.

Off to a large vintage trailer rally in Lynden Washington tomorrow for 4 days. Hope to get in a few more 3 day trips to get in some fall hikes, before putting the trailer to bed for the winter - probable in mid November this year although it has been out and about into January some years.

Nearly 8K miles? Holy mackerel!

In April we saw the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. May, went to a FB rally near Moab, the Gold Bar rec. site, Canyonlands, camped at Mesa Verde NP, on way home spent one night at Capitol Reef, NP and Bryce Canyon NP, then breezed through Zion NP and home. Could not check out the north rim of the Grand Canyon - the road was closed.

No ac in our trailer, but did a few minor weekend trips in-state over summer anyway, just to keep the trailer wheels from going flat. Otherwise nothing until a big Sep 3-10 trip to WY. Planning to return to the North Rim in a couple weeks.
