Juneau!? on a general cities-for-retirement-consideration list? hmm... I wonder if the writer actually went (or checked a map?) and realized that if you want to leave town to maybe actually GO, say, --
anywhere-- it will take a $$ plane ticket(s) or $$ ferry ride(s)? not to mention the overall cost of living being fairly high too thus defeating the suggested 'tax savings'. But hey, "after work" you can go walk down to the waterfront to go fishing, or climb mountains and visit nearby glaciers.
There is the capital building to visit, too, but our now famous governor is not often there.
In fairness, while I personally would not want to live there full-time, there are over 30,000 folks who do, and Juneau (and that part of the state in general - the 'panhandle') is a beautiful place with a rich history - so it's well worth visiting if anyone gets the chance. Hope for a sunny day.

me, I enjoy living in Anchorage (warning! Alaskan cliche' to follow!) where I'm only a 15 minute drive from Alaska.
