Pocomoke River State Park & US Rt.113

"This park is very nice, right beside the Chesapeake Bay. It's a wonder full park with most of the sites having electricity. One neat factor is that MD offers a senior pass to all holders of a federal senior pass for a one time charge of $10. The camping fee here with electricity for tonight is $14 plus tax. The pass is good at all MD parks.

There are 3 Scamps in the park tonight, almost a rally. I'll add the park to our list of campgrounds"

Not far from Janes Island SP is Shad Landing at Pocomoke State Park. Also open all year round, it has the same $$ schedule (use the MD senior pass there too!) and similar facilities, but on the Pocomoke River. There's a state operated marina there also. It's on US Rt. 113. Rt. 113 is the less traveled alternate route to a busy portion of US Rt. 13 in Maryland and Delaware. It is 1 mile longer than Rt. 13, and all 4-laned except for 9 miles in a rural area of Maryland, but so many Less stoplights than Rt. 13. I've been traveling up and down the Delmarva many times a year for about 11 yrs now, and a few yrs. ago a friend told me about using 113 instead of 13. I tried it once and have never been back to 13 unless my wife wants something at Chick's Equine Store in Harrington, DE--then I have to go the 13 route.

For Pocomoke SP, Use the same link that Norm posted.

eats:
Rita's Restaurant, Parksley, VA
Sage Restaurant, Onley, VA
Seaford Eagle Diner, Seaford, DE

I agree--the Eastern Shore is a very nice place

Feel free to put this into a separate thread if need be.

Mark

Mark,

We've stayed there and like it as well. Another good Md park is Smallwood, just outside DC on the Potomac.

I'll add your suggestion. Thanks for the restaurants.

After crossing the bridge / tunnel heading north we've stopped to eat at Stingrays a couple times.

We've eaten there as well. Certainly a different type of place.

Hi Eileen,
You're right, a New Tappan Zee bridge is being constructed, but the old one is still very much in use by heavy traffic. We have not experienced any abnormal or construction delays on the Tappan Zee yet.

We had no trouble on the Tappen Zee Bridge but on I 495 around Boston we had three severe traffic Jams, a 60 minute ride took two hours.

I-495 in MA has perpetual traffic, construction always somewhere.

nfknd

We spent a wonderful summer touring nflnd. Never returned via Labrador. I do so want to do that.

When we drove across Labrador we came back through Quebec on rt 389 by all the Manic Dams. One of the difficulties was in virtually every campground no one spoke a word of English. Of course Quebec is the only province to not have bilingual signs. Most US citizens could benefit from bilingual signs.

Of course it doesn't slow us down too much, we've been across Quebec and out to the Gaspe.

We had hoped to go to Newfoundland in May but have decided to hurry home and sell our NH home, maybe in the fall.[/QUOTE]

I will no longer continue to maintain this thread. Though it's had 3600 reads, the interest seems low so I will no longer keep track and update the thread.

I've decided to change focus. Thank you to those that provided information.

If you're interested in taking it over let me know and I'll provide the necessary permission (after I figure that out).
