Talking First Trip

Just got home from my first camping trip in my scamp! Spent 4 days traveling thru North Carolina...the Biltmore, the Grove Park Inn beautifully decorated for Christmas. Then drove home thru Cashiers and the Highlands! I really did not want to come home...I am so hooked and love the life and the freedom that comes with the scamp. I am now planning a trip to North Beach Camp Resort in St. Augustine Florida. Has anyone spent time there? Also, silly question, but do I need 50 amp for this 13'? Thanks to everyone for so much info..ps..the scamp leaked alittle when I left a window cracked...no damage!

We were in St Augustine last Feb and loved it. I want to go back to spend more time. We were not camping on that trip so can'comment on the campround.

You should not need more than 30 amp for the scamp. Household current should be adequate unless you are using AC or electric heat.

Sounds like a great first trip, Emily. We went on our second trip earlier this week. Just spent two nights at a local wildlife club on a lake so we could try out the furnace and try boondocking. Don't make the mistake DH did! Your refrigerator will run down the battery FAST, so be sure to convert to gas as soon as you can. Otherwise, had a great trip.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. A little tip that might save some headaches. If you start the fridge at home at least a day before you leave and put cold stuff in it, you can for a day or so without it running. (I keep my fridge running all the time when the egg is in the nest, on 120.) If don't turn it battery you won't have to remember to shut off right away. I've gone at least two days in 70° to 80° without the fridge running, everything stayed nice and cold.

If you're really concerned about it freeze a couple water bottles and put them in before you leave home.

Most of my camping is boondocking. One trip early this year close to 100 days and 4 days with electricity, close to 20 days in one spot. Less worries, less dollars, and lots of fun.

Great tip about the fridge, Byron, and we both knew that deep in our heads somewhere, but it has been awhile since we have had a camper, and we are a little rusty.
100 days of camping in a 13' Scamp? I am very impressed!

Emily, you and I have some catching up to do, right?

Just a little over a month and we'll be off for another 100 days. My feet are getting itchy.
