Lots of people living cheap on boats near Corte Madera. FYI.

If leaving the trailer in a storage lot, yes I would still chain it unless the lot manager has to be able to move it around while you're away and says not to chain it. Sometimes they park RVs two or three deep.

parking somewhere that you know someone is the best choice. my last visit to the bay area i was going to be at my son's house in oakland. there's noting more useless than a trailer in oakland. thru the casita forums i located a fellow casitian nearby that let me park in his yard for ten or so days. since i wasn't staying in the trailer it was no biggie. another security device you might consider is a "lo jack". these emit some sort of radio signal that allows the cops to locate a stolen hi $ car (trailer). it may be too pricy but then...

what's the chance of parking the casita at the summer camp where you'll be working?

When we were considering fulltimeing we discovered the Escapees RV web site. It provided us with a lot of information and we ended up joining the club.
