No permanent home no mo
A month or so ago we sold our home and decided to hit the trail full time for a year or 2. We waited long enough and we're both excited about it. We on various trips in the past have lasted 5 or 6 months and we're still married and very much together in this. We have thought about getting something bigger but decided we will start out Inneggsile and take an evaluation in the fall when we return to sunny Florida in late October. At 76 yrs old my kids think we're nuts, our friends think we're nuts, the neighbors think we're nuts, so we're convinced of it, we're nuts. Both of us have always had nomadic spirits and this is the culmination of it. We left NH in 1977 in a Volkswagon Bus with 3 kids 11, 9-1/2 and 13 months, a dog and a cat and ended up in Rocky Mount, Va on 25 acres of land where I think we had every animal that Noah had on the ark. We raised our own meat, veggies, and kids and when they all left home we came to Florida to relax. Then we bought a Casita and the relaxation started to expand all over the country. We always thought that maybe we would grow out of it but it just keeps getting worse so we finally gave in to it. Hope to see you all on the road, Bill and Karen

Good on you!!!
I've decided to hit the road at a much younger age.
Six months in the trailer and six months in the Baja.
I've just returned after three months down there and love it so much that I'm heading back for six months in late Oct. most days are sunny.
At least my time down there in a condo breaks up the trailer life.

bill---congratulations! you are living my dream. don't worry what the kids, neighbours and friends think.....you're not nuts--you're doing something that takes huge amounts of guts. tell them they've got their consonants confused....guts, not nuts.
and daniel---you'll have to tell us more about your lifestyle. i am intrigued by your wintering in mexico. is it as unsafe as we've been led to believe by the media?
and may i ask what your job is that allows such a luxury?

Good on you two!
You do realise that it is totally cool to be a nut, don't you? A nut is stubborn enough to keep its feet planted long enough to grow into something beautiful.

The Baja is very safe one can walk the beaches at night I did many times.
A nice house can be rented for 500.00 a month.
I stay on hotel row in a condo for 800.00 a month in San Jose del Cabo.
I've been retired for a few years now worked for a good company with a good pension plan.
When down there I tend to mix with the local people very friendly & warm.

We travel 7-11 months a year. Initially our friends thought we were crazy, some still do.
Interestingly many have come to recognize we've had a great time. Even among those who recognize how special our travels have been have all kinds of real and not real reasons why they 'can't do it'.
You have made a choice. It sounds good to us. We rate our choice to travel as one of our best choices ever
Safe and exciting travels

Sounds great and exciting. It sounds like a lot of your life was in the self-sufficient mode, and you are continuing the tradition. A lot of farmers never retire in the traditional sense, they just figure out other ways to keep the body and mind very active. Congrats.

Congrats Bill, sounds like you two will have lots of fireside stories to share!
...and that is cari's and my plan also...hit the road and not look back. Right now, since we still have a few years to go till we fully unplug, we will do our 3 weeks of work + 1 week off from spring thaw to fall freeze. For now it is keeping us relaxed and enjoying life.
Happy trails,
Thom

It's a Small World, after all
Should this be posted to Sightings, Trip Reports, Full Timing or Rally's?
Last week on our way home from a lovely month in Florida, with a Caribbean cruise on the side (more later), we popped in to Myrtle Beach, NC State Park. Lo and behold, there we met another Boler, three Casitas and an Eggcamper, including, wait for it ... FGRV heros Bill & Karen, with members Ron & Jane, plus newbies Debra & Kathy, "Land" & Audrey.
Attached is proof that ours is a happy life.

You meet the nicest people in FG campers. We met Des and Diane and Karen and Bill at the Vintage Rally in New Brunswick last year.
We also had the pleasure of meeting and playing cards Alf S. and Mary Anne later that day. It's a small world full of wonderful folks.
