Soar (c)David J. Shaw 10/11/12
A friend has opened a door in my world,
A friend has turned on a
light,
To the beauty of life and all that it holds,
My friend said that I might,
Find peace of mind for my tortured soul,
Or love from a memory,
On the open road, in a pickup truck,
If I let my spirit soar free.
The trip was planned some time ago,
2009, in the
fall.
But the cancer came to claim my Love,
And leave me with nothing at all.
Now I must go. She said I must.
To the south and its warmer climes,
On an odyssey, in search of life,
And whatever else I find.
The spectred ride of a lonely man,
In search of life and more,
A bittersweet trek to another world,
Since someone opened that door.
And shone that
light in my darkened world,
To show that there's more for me,
If I have the nerve and the sense to go,
If I let my spirit soar free.
