Looks very nice, but 4 cylinders while providing 4wd? Probably a bit underpowered. Anyone have any experience with these vehicles?

I'd love to see a Toyota-engined small RV like this, in a 2019 version.
Like a newer version Sunrader or such.

It's old enough to be imported into the US, too.

If that price is Canadian dollars, at today's exchange rate it is $14229.86 USD.

If I was in the neighborhood I'd give it a look.

Note that Townace was a world/asia market only van, so getting parts for it here in North America might be challenging. its also a very small van, smaller than the Previa (which was smaller than the later Sienna). AFAIK, Townace only had 2.0 and 2.2L I4 engines

I looked at taking a camping trip to New Zealand. Their market is full of camping vans this size or even smaller. Lots of interesting mini-Class Bs out there. Kind of unusual but the rentals in New Zealand are often quite old.

They also rent essentially mini-vans with beds in the back, really basic.

Some things to think about

Note that the outfit is 26 years old. It appears to have 111K miles on it if I read the odometer in the picture correctly. If it has been maintained and everything is in full working order (not ready to go kaput as you cross the sidewalk onto the dealership street) I would negotiate a better price. $19K seems high for what it is. It doesn't appear to have dual wheels on the back axle which could create issues with stability in the wind. The 4 cylinder that Toyota used in these years was a strong as an ox and hyper-reliable. The transmissions had the same good reputation. This is a body that was the pre-cursor to the Sienna van they market now. If it is the platform I'm thinking of, the engine is beneath the driver and front passenger which may be another concern - that when work is needed a great deal of care is needed not to booger up your carpets, seats and such. Overall it looks like a good unit, but still would negotiate for a $12K price point. Yes folks I'm serious. ;-)

1993 Toyota Townace $19,000

115,000 km. That’s about 71K miles.

I recently acquired, somewhat reluctantly, a late model Class B on an Chevy chassis, and the sooner I fix its numerous issues and pass it on the better. I’m not a fan of motorized RV’s in general. Maintaining something like this vintage unit - cute and well laid out as it is- is my worst nightmare.

While the model year is contemporary with the Previa, the front actually looks more like the earlier Toyota Van, as they were rather unimaginatively branded in the US. The 4x4’s gained a niche following, and there are still a few on the road doing hard labor. I’d guess the larger Previa was adapted for the North American market, while the narrow-bodied van continued to evolve in the Asian market...
