For sale is an original prototype, showroom model Travel Trailer built in 1960 with a design years ahead of its time. This "Trailer for the Rich" was designed by David H. Holmes, owner of Harry & David, and Chuck Pelly, an engineer and designer of BMW race cars.

The "Geographic Model X" was originally listed for sale in 1960 for $8,495 (In 1960 you could buy a house for $13,000). It includes a living area with two (2) fold out sofa-beds, kitchenette with teak cabinetry, Original Norcold Refrigerator and two pairs of wall foldout Magic Chef brand gas stove burners and a Magic Chef Oven (all appliances are in perfect working condition). Original receipts, invoices, advertisments and promotional items have all been retained and preserved (available on website below). I purchased this trailer and put my heart and soul into restoring it. This is my personal luxury antique one-of-a-kind land Yacht! There has been tremendous media buzz regarding this unique trailer in the LA Times, the Harry and David Frutier and other publications.

This antique, one-of-a-kind trailer should only appreciate in value, unlike new trailers that will be guaranteed to depreciate tremendously.

Serious buyers only please. Please reply to this post and I will contact you back at my earliest convenience. Willing to consider possible 1035 exchange. I hope you enjoy this piece of history and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

He'd be lucky to get 10% of that asking price.

OMG Bardy has actually got it for sale! Those of us that attended the 2008 Oregon Gathering had the opportunity to actually SEE this trailer. It's something else, a definite one-of-a-kind. I think it belongs in a museum. And he has ALL the manuals that go with this trailer, all the advertising pieces and all the documentation on the build.

I remember one very neat feature, a table that pulls out from under the kitchen counter on a pivot. That would be a great way to open up our egg trailers.

So very cool. I'd buy it if I had the money...

anyone know the original built in 1960 color of the trailer? I only see black and white photos. I see he bought it used as a white color but then restored to the color of grey or silver? I was curious if the restoraion inluded the original color. Sure enjoyed reading about the history.

Ken, I think it was white originally... but can't be certain. He pulled into the Oregon Gathering with a matching SUV of some brand.... listening to some of the tales he told about getting to Bandon and all the looks the Geographic caused on the freeways ... were hysterical. It's a wonder there weren't some accidents by rubber neckers.

This trailer was built in 1960 with white gelcoat. Bardy himself didn't realize what he had bought until after he got it home. Since the original gelcoat could not be restored, Bardy probably took a cue from the designer's concept drawing he obtained with the trailer.

IIRC, Bardy invested $20,000.00 into his restoration according to an interview.

He used a 2006 or 2007 Toyota Sequoia to tow it from Los Angeles to Oregon, Donna.

<sigh> I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I had the funding...

A link to further links to information about this trailer.

Okay, at first glance, I misread 135 k for 13.5 k.

.... I see what you mean. Over $100,000 for a trailer, no matter how cool and historic it may be, is just a surreal price tag.

Hi: All...Maybe Bardy could strike a deal with the R.V. Museum in Indiana. They could buy it for a reasonable price and grant him an Income Tax receipt for the balance...Just thinkin'

I found a couple of pictures I took of the Geographic interior... I'm sure I have more, on a computer somewhere!

Note the totally retro cool 60s fiberglass panel... this is back in the bathroom area

and THIS is the pull out table. The leg flips up underneath and the entire thing pivots into the counter. You can see two cabinet knobs on the one side. When it's in the closed position, it looks like a thin drawer in the cabinet.

Boy, Donna, am I glad you posted that table pic.

I had saved it too (isn't it cool!?!), and I simply could NOT figure out where I had put it! It's been driving me nuts!

Oops previous post fired a blank. What I was going to say to Raya was Aren't we blessed that computers came along. Now we can not only misplace physical items we can misplace virtual ones too !!! We are truly doubly blessed. Lee

Hi All (I'm baaaaack!),

Been hiding under several feet of snow all winter---but now I see grass, so Spring must be coming! Anyway, I agree with Donna---if I had the money------

I read up on this little beauty when I was learning about Fiberglass campers and searching for my darling Perris Pacer. I agree, there are so few made, this should be in a museum! Sure wish I could see it in the flesh!
