Our 1994 scamp has P175/80R13 tires that need to be replaced. The wheels are the white trailer tire wheels. Has anyone replaced their 13' smaller tires with larger ones, and if so, what wheel size did you get?

It seems there aren't a whole lot of brand options for the 175/80/13 tires.

Thanks.

Why do you want to go bigger as they might not fit in the wheel well ,the tires are designed for the trailer ,and dont forget to put on trailer tires not car tires there is a difference. Rick

Rick's right -- The P-radials have much less stiffer sidewalls than ST radials (or bias ply), causing the trailer to have more side-to-side movement -- I had read about that problem for years on other RV groups and found it was true when I put a set of P-radials on my old Jayco 16'. However, one member uses P-radials and is happy with them.

You might call Scamp parts to find out if there is a 14" wheel and tire size that will fit in the wheel well both horizontally and vertically.

I just put Goodyear Marathon ST175/80R13's on my Scamp. The prior tires have been Towmaster II ST175/80D13/C. They've all been 6 ply tires.

These newest are the first radials I've had. Two things the I've noticed, one is that I have to put 50 psi in the radials while only 45 in the ply and I think the Scamp pulls smoother with the radials.

Thanks for all the good advice. I did not know the difference between the P tire and the ST. I may stick with the same wheel and just replace the tire. I have found a Toyo tire for about the same price as the P trailer tire:

http://www.thetireclub.com/product/143200

I'm sure I can probably get some ordered locally, as the Toyo factory [one of them] is about 10 miles up the road in White, GA

The only reason I was suggesting bigger, is that there were very few tire choices in that size. I'm really happy with the wheel size [I one can be happy with that :-) } -- but I do think the Toyo's are a good option.

There are other reasons for using ST tires over P-radials besides ride stability -- They are built for higher pressures and have more carbon in the mix to give more UV protection.

The next time I buy 13" tires for the Compact Jr, I'm going to order from Maxxis.

Those Maxxis are almost twice the price of the Toyo's. I'm wondering what the difference is? Hopefully, twice the quality.

Remember that the Toyo is a passenger car tire and the Maxxis is a special trailer tire. Tirerack sells the same size Goodyear Marathon ST tire for $68. Comparing passenger tires and ST tires is like comparing apples with oranges.

Gotcha. I didn't realize the Toyo was a car tire. Good information everyone has posted here.

Thanks.
