1984 17' Bigfoot Tire Size?

Hello,

A friend just bought a 1984 17' Bigfoot trailer and will be picking it up in the next couple days. He is wanting to bring a new set of tires to tow back with. A quick search of the forum did not reveal anything conclusive. Can anyone please tell me:
1. Tire Size?
2. Rim Size?
3. Bolt Pattern?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you

I hope someone will have an authoritative answer, but the trailer is too heavy for common 13" tires, and axles of sufficient capacity usually have 5x4.5" bolt pattern, so my guess is:
ST205/75R14
6"x14" wheels (or whatever common width of 14" trailer wheels you find)
5x4.5" bolt pattern

Can the seller not confirm whats on it???? What was on it originally may not be whats one it now especially if the axle has been changed on it.

Brian is right that is the size even if the axle had been changed there would not be much more clearance.

Seems a few folks have gotten a bit creative in replacing axles on Bigfoots in order to get more clearance. Dont think I would take to much for granted on an older trailer without first checking the actual trailer.... you never know whats been done or not done.

Very true. I suppose the question is not "what is the original tire size", or even "what tire size is currently on the trailer", but rather "what size should be used on this trailer"... which may depend on what has been done to it.

With a 3500 pound axle, ST205/75R14 LR-C would be adequate, would be readily available, and would fit. A larger size may be more optimal, and the currently installed size may indicate what can fit.

Brian is correct about ST tire size for an early 1500 series 17'. 205/75R14 tires on 5 bolt wheels. If the axle is original, it will have lug bolts (not lug nuts) and the street side hubs will be reverse thread.

Can you fit 205/75/R15’s on a 1984 Bigfoot b17? Was reading through the thread and saw one comment you might be able to put a bit bigger. I just didn’t understand clearly. Then wondering if that’s rim size as well… thanks!
