2012/2014 Ford Escape and Scamp 16

Currently have a Scamp 13 with many options but am considering an upgrade to a Scamp 16. Current tow vehicle is a 2014 Ford Escape 2.0/Ecoboost with Ford towing pkg, updated wiring and brake controller. It pulls the 13' like it's not even there.
Is anybody towing a 16' with a Ford Escape like mine, and if so, any 'real life' advice or issues? THANK YOU!

We towed our 16' with a v-6 2006 Honda Odyssey. Last year went great. This year our transmission on the van gave us trouble & we ended up trading it in for a truck that was better equipped for towing. The escape might do ok, might not.

Why did your transmission give you a problem, do you know? I plan to use a 2010 grand caravan with a 3.6 v6. I had thought of putting a cooler on the transmission.

We tow our 23' with a mid sized car. We have towed the trailer empty and with the trailer loaded ready for travel (about 800lbs heavier) You feel the weight slightly when getting up to speed but once up to speed you really don't feel the weight at all.

I once asked a well known towing specialist about the reliability differences between cars, minivans, and pickups when used as tow vehicles.

He replied the he had put 1,000's of combo's out on the roads and from the feedback he had received form those customers it was the trucks that had more mechanical issues than the cars or minivans.

For years we towed with a Nissan Mini Van and even with 464,000klm's on it the tranny was fine. We did install an external tranny cooler.

We aren't sure why the tranny was giving us problems. We picked it up last year in Montana & hauled it with the honda back to Az via Idaho, Washington, Oregon & California with no problems.
This year we were heading back to Washington State & about 100 miles south of Flaggstaf, AZ we had the problem. It was in the middle of a hot day, but still shouldn't of happened. We take excellent care of our vehicle & just had a tuneup, etc. Driving up through a mountain climb as we go about a quarter of the way up the hill, the van just lost power & started to slow down. I pulled to the side of the road & noticed something was leaking. Called AAA & got towed into Flagstaff trailer & all. The next day the Honda dealer couldn't find anything wrong, but said the van really isn't meant for towing a travel trailer. He said the tranny could be fine or it could give out...he couldn't say. Since we were on the road for the summer, we couldn't chance another breakdown...especially since we were going theough desert & a lot of climbing. At any rate, we opted to trade in the van while it was running well. We found a Ford 150 v8 & since we are looking at getting a larger trailer thought it a good choice.
We do see plenty of smaller vehicles pulling the fiberglass trailers, so you might be ok. Hope that helps with your question.
