21" to top of ball ?
I towed my new to me Scamp 16 home yesterday. I noticed that the front was tipped lower than the rear of the trailer. It didn't look very streamlined.
When I got home I checked the on line manual from Scamp and saw that the measurement from the ground to the top of the ball should be 21"
To get that measurement I'll have to turn the draw bar 180° and swap the ball around. Any problem with using the draw bar like this?

You may find turning the ball around a challenge as they typically are torqued to 200-250 foot-pounds. Raz

the stingers can be used in either direction, but as Raz indicated maybe hard to remove the ball.

Just slip a piece of pipe over a large crescent wrench. In extreme case, hit it with penetrating oil and maybe a little heat from a propane torch.

When I changed TV' from the Trailblazer to the Explorer, I had to flip mine 180 also.

Thanks for the replys folks. My TV is a Ford Explorer Sport Trac with a factory hitch. It must be lower than other types of trucks. I think the tip about turning the draw bar 90° for better leverage is great and will make loosening the ball much easier. Thanks.

with my friends Scamp, reversing the receiver, made the rear door on his Honda vulnerable to impact with the trailer coupler , so be careful when backing up to the Scamp, leave the front of the trailer lower until in position.

A fellow forum member Brian B-P informed me that flipping the stinger may not always be advisable UNLESS the manufacturer has noted weights on each side. I never paid much attention to the fine print but he advises to read what is imprinted on the hitch stinger. Some may not be eligible for flipping so PLEASE check with the manufacturer to determine the limits to be placed on the unit.

Good ideas for removal. How about tightening to the right torque? My wrench doesn't go that high.

I've faced that problem and I just stood on the wrench at the appropriate distance. For example 200 foot pounds = a 200# man standing at a point 1 foot from the bolt. Or 100# man standing at a point two feet from the bolt. It is linear.

Do you think the RV places actually use a torque wrench or the technique you've suggested. Perhaps a breaker bar and a whippin' big pipe?
