89 16ft Scamp axle???

We live in washington state and need to replace the axle in our Scamp.Right now its a Al-KO axle that has seen its days.I thing a 22.5 dg, down would give us the hight were looking for and wed like brakes as well.Anyone know of and shops in Washington that do these axles?I also am on the look for the part number for either a al-ko or dexter axle number for the 16ft.Id like to kmnow what to order, oredering from the factory doesnt make sense, seeing itll be the same price as the axle to ship it.Id like to go with a 3500lb this time, ours has a 2000lb and I believe it to be barely enuff.Id like to run 14" tires and possibly a 5 lug.Any part numbers would be great info guys. Thanks Aaron

Aaron, I don't live in Washington nor can I provide part numbers. BUT, several years back I changed the axle on my Scamp to the 3,500 lb with EZ lubes and now run 15" tires. Had I known then what I know now, I would have ordered the 22.5 down (and added a spacer). Instead I ordered the 45 down.... I have no real regrets, I just would have done things differently.

I hope someone can give you the information you need...

Aaron,
For a 16' trailer a 3500 lb. axle would be a better match. I just installed a 3500 lb. Flexiride in my 16' Scamp with excellent results. We returned from a 2000 mile trip and the trailer rode beautifully. Our trailer weighs about 2800 loaded for camping, which makes a 3500 axle ideal. The Flexiride rides smoother than the 9 year old Akro we removed.

Russ,do you have a part number or could you get the numbers off the axle?

Aaron,
I am not at home now, but will get the information for you when I return. I purchased the axle from a Flexiride dealer/fabricator in Lubbock Texas. I specified the axle be made 1" shorter hub face to hub face than the stock axle to allow for tire to fenderwell clearance with 14" wheels. In my installation I used a 2" Square tube spacer to add height to the trailer. The spacer also allowed the axle to be bolted to the trailer in lieu of welding. Flexiride does not allow welding on their axle, as it can destroy the bond of the damping rubber. If you do not want a higher trailer you would have to work out another attachment method. A good trailer fabricator could work out those details for you to ensure it is handled properly. The Flexiride axle is adjustable for height by rotating the trailing arm on the splined torsion bar. Mine is set at 23 degrees down, which is ideal. There is some more info on another post @ http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...amp-53635.html
