ALL scamp (especially 5er) owners should check their axle brackets.

This is from my 1984 19' scamp I just bought. I only found it because I was replacing the axle to begin with. I'm guessing the old ones last longer, because mine had angle iron bracing it to the frame. The angle iron was bending up, which cracked the brackets.

Here's what I found when I looked at the old axle bracket, I guess it's not just new ones cracking out.

If you look 1/2" right from the left side of the torch cut, you can it's starting to crack down from there, as well.

So, go check yours. I'm guessing it's mainly a 5er thing, but it can't hurt to check.

I'm not complaining, it made it until the rubber failed anyway, so it's a moot point.

There was an alert put out about the axles on Scamp 5ers. KamperBob has posted a PDF with valuable information. Anyone owning a Scamp 5er (2001-2007 models and anyone else that's concerned) should read this information! Safety Alert - 2001-2007 owners

Yours is an older model Jared, but the info may still apply!

Welcome Jared! Congrat's on your purchase. I know the challenge ahead of you might look daunting, but promise you will eventually have a great trailer that you will have years of great memories with. Hang in there, hopefully the link Donna provided will be what your looking for. Good Luck!

Thanks for the info, I saw it but thought I would post this since mine is a 1984 model, and has the same problem as the 01-07 years. I hadn't heard anything about the old ones having the same problem.

I'm not bothering to contact scamp, it's a 28 year old camper, I'm not the original owner, and the torsion rubber is shot, anyway. They don't owe me anything. I already have a new axle and lift kit from them waiting to go under mine, as soon as I finish cutting out all of the flooring cross members. I have a build going in the care and feeding section with more on it.

I also found some frame cracks, in addition to the ones on the axle bracket.

Look at the dark spot in the ground area, you can see a crack running around the left side of it:

This one is several inches long:
