Anyone towing with a 2013 Ford Escape?

If gass prices go over $4 and maybe up to $5 it will. All thoes people that never put anything more than a ocasional bag of mulch in the bed will switch. Who would tow 3500#'s with a Escape without trailer brakes?

Exactly Daniel. I wouldn't tow anything over 1500#s without trailer brakes. In NYS trailers weighing over 1,000 pounds unladen, and trailers having a maximum gross weight in excess of 3,000 pounds, must be equipped with brakes. So this is a perfect example. Ford offers a vehicle that can tow over what my state says brakes are required for. It really doesn't make any kind of sense to me! Plus it's means more work for me, and expense!

$4.00 gas on the west coast and parts of the east coast and $5 is a reality for our Canadian friends.

We were just in CT and gas was over $4 and deisel even higher.

I think it's over 4 bucks for premium around here. At least it was when I got gas for my classic speedboat the other day. Darn old "tower of power" mercs need 93 octane! Nothing like it though, 50 years old and runs like a champ! With luck, I'll have it out for a bit tomorrow on the Hudson.

Frank, We had a 1982 Sunline 1550 as well. It had a wonderful layout, I believe better than our fiberglass trailer. Anything that had any weight was located virtually right over the axle or at least beside it....bathroom, black tank, grey tank water tank, stove, fridge. It was very well designed except after a 1/4 centurty our's leaked badly.

As to the price of gas, it's not anything we can fix. Unfortunately it affects the price of everything.

Ours is an '83, and our basic problem with it is and was bed size. It's 44" wide, and I am a big fellow. And while the pup is only 12#s, he sure does take a lot of bed! Actually we had a '79 Sunline Sunspot in 2011 and that was mostly all bed. We built the bed from scratch as the interior had been completely gutted by a PO, and boy, was it ever comfortable. Other than some storage in the back it was basically just a covered bed on wheels...

We still are looking at a ParkLiner, but I have to admit to some nervousness based on things I've read here. I like the ceiling height and queen size bed stuff though. We'll see. We're gonna go new one way or the other.

I was a big guy when we started RVing, 250, but have shrunk with age and the RV life Style to the 180s.

At home we have a queen bed but find that we sleep similar to the way we do in our 44" bed. One of us seems to feel lonely during the night and comes over sometime during the night finding we're more comfortable when in contact or nearly so.

Actually this has been a surprise, we definitely thought 44" would be a problem but it's worked for us.

AS to the Parkliner, I saw Tim Wood's in FL at the Scamp Camp. It's very nice. I don't understand the lack of engagement on the part of the company.

Gee, maybe I'll shrink some more. I was 300 10 years ago, 235 now, and sure would like to be 185! Maybe that's in my rv'ing future! Not like I don't keep at it - just came in from brush hogging, powered, but hand operated. Trying to clean up a back area overgrown with phragmites reeds. Got /12 done what I wanted to do, other 1/2 needs to get done before noon tomorrow.

I think there are a lot of ParkLiner customers and potential customers that don't understand the company's lack of engagement. Another fiberglass flash-in-the-pan?

Congratulations, you're well on your way in the right direction.

With what? My weight or the reeds? If the reeds, they are 95% done, and I have the brush hog till 12:50 tomorrow. Will finish in the a.m. If weight, last time I was to my docs, I was the lowest he's recorded. Been going there about 10 years now, so the 300 figure must have been 15 years ago. It's been a while. I gained a bunch of weight after quitting cigarettes cold turkey. Even at 235, I'm just glad I don't smoke anymore!

They did increase the alternator size & fan coupler but adding the trailer lighting was a pain! It is amazing that sometimes just a few simple upgrades can almost double the Tow Rating.

Well it appears that many vehicle have some respectable towing capabilities but are limited to a few accessories like alternator or cooling fan size.

Is that what you are seeing as well Thomas??

My 2009 GMC Canyon, 4 cylinder, 5 speed standard is rated for 2100#s. With an automatic transmission the exact same vehicle is rated for 3100#s.
