Bent Axle?

My '86 13ft Casita tows great but tires wear badly on the outside edge. I assume the axle is bend. I was told this type of axle could not be corrected by rebending. I have not had the camper looked at by an axle expert. Has anyone had a tortion bar axle repaired?

Ed you might go to the Dexter web site and see what you can find out.

A few people have replaced them.

Go to search in the upper right hand corner and enter Dexter or Dexter Axle. There should be a lot of information there.

wear on the outside? I figure if the axle is worn it would wear on the inside. logic thinking, not experience.

Not worn, but bent. If, for instance, someone ran the wheel hard against a short tree stump in a campground, it could actually bend the axle arm inward slightly, which would cause the leading edge of the tire to wear prematurely. My father had this happen on his fifth wheel. He had his axle replaced to correct the problem.
