Blowout!

From a friend's FB post… This is what can happen when a tire blows on a trailer at 65mph. Left is the brand new replacement, right is what was left of the original. Ouch! It was a utility trailer, no one was hurt, and the trailer survived. Imagine if it were a FG egg…

Be safe, friends- check the dates on your tires and slow down!

Speed kills, including tires. (Trailer tires max speed 65 mph when inflated to side wall pressure(that is maximum pressure printed on the side wall)).

Been there Entering Colorado Springs with a Bigfoot truck camper when the left rear exploded and took out the auxilary tranny cooler. Spent the night in the yard of a repair shop. Never felt comfortable with that camper again and eventually gave it to a son.

Thanks Jon - scary!
I was hauling a car trailer when moving from NM back to OR and discovered the hard way after a blowout that the place that rents stuff U can Haul yourself had put auto tires on the trailer.
That was about 45 minutes in to the trip.

I would strongly suggest that anyone that doesn't know the exact age of the tires on their FGRV's check them today and plan accordingly.

Remember, it's age, much more than appearance & miles on the tire that is a leading cause of tire failures on RV's.

Here's how to find and read those date codes:

BTW: Passenger car tires, of the correct size and weight rating, are not inherently going to blow out when used on a trailer, but they may not track as well as ST tires.
I'd guess that the tires on the trailer that Liz rented had other problems than just not being ST rated.
