Brakes for an '83 13' Burro

I'm thinking of putting electric brakes on our '83 13' Burro and the question has come up about the original axle having the mounting plates for the brake assemblies to be mounted to. Does anyone know if the plates were put on the axles as standard?

Look to see if you have a square plate with four holes in it welded to the axel just behind your spindle. These plates are what the backer plates bolt to. No plates, no brakes you will have to replace the axel to get brakes. With an 83 trailer you may be better off just replacing the axel if you want brakes. Backer plates, drums and bearings will be close in cost to a new axel.

Yes, I'm aware of all of that but the trailer is in storage where I can't make a visual inspection to see if the plates are there. I was just wondering if anyone knew if they were part of the axle as standard
