After 40 days and nights in the shop, my tow vehicle is back from the dead!
The good… It looks great. All parts except the taillights are OEM. The hitch and electrical
connector are brand new. I also got a brand-new full-sized spare wheel and tire in place of the donut. The hatch's occasional tendency to unlatch when I hit a bump is now gone. Most important, the other party's insurance took care of everything without drama (thank you, Farmer's!).
The bad… There was slight damage to the left frame rail, and it had to be pulled. The back edge of the cargo compartment was caved in a couple of inches, so the sill had to be cut out and a new piece welded in. The cost ballooned from the initial estimate of $5400 to $9900!
plate was crumpled and straightened. Thought about getting a new one, but decided to keep it as a battle scar.
We are finally ready to take advantage of the early spring weather here in the Southwest. Let's go camping!
