E-Trailer sale on Sherlind Scale

I received a e-mail from E-Trailer announcing a what sound like a one day sale on a Sherline tongue weitht scale for $139.95 and free shipping. this is about half the normal price. It has a 2000# capacity and could be used to weigh the weight on each wheel of a under 4000# trailer.

It is for weighing the tongue, not the wheels.
Also, it is most accurate in the middle of the scale ( 1,000 lb. on a 2,000 lb. scale ). I replaced my gauge with a 1000 lb. which places my 320 lb tongue weight at about the 1/3 mark on the gauge.
Trying to read a 250 lb. tongue weight on a 2,000 lb. gauge is not easy, nor perfectly accurate.

It's got a capacity of 2000# so it could easily be put under each side of the axle to weigh what should be around 1500# on each side.
If it goes over 2000# per wheel I'm in trouble for not only the scale but axle capacity too.

As Glen mentioned, the Sherline scale is for measuring tongue weight, and is not suitable for measuring axle weights. The scale looks like this:

and gets used like this

I suppose that you could jack up your axles and somehow set them on top of the Sherline scale, but that would be a real PITA. I would also suggest that for measuring axle weights, you will need to use a different scale or go to a commercial scale.

Dave.

The round part sticking up is an extension that unscrews leaving a round flat area in which to put under the axle or in my case the bracket for my OMW shock mount.
I have seen them used and know what I'm getting.
Like I mentioned if I go over the 2000# rating per side I'm too heavy to begin with for one wheel. My Casita has a 3500# axle.

thanks
Joe

Great deal and free shipping, too. I'd thought of buying one earlier, but hesitated at the price. I jumped on this offer.

I bought one this afternoon to weigh both the tongue and I think I can build a fixture to weigh the individual wheels as well.
I am thinking not jcaking up thr axle, but rather a fixture to hook into the wheel and jack the tire until it is off the ground , but not lifted very high. This makes the geometry work out better and better numbers to calculate total weight and center of gravity and side to side weight too.
Since I am restoring and building to suit my needs I will have to locate the parts to balance side to side and fore and aft.
I am shooting for ~2800 lbs or less with 200 lbs on the hitch. The tongue has been extended to aid in hitch weight reduction. This will put 7% on the hitch. I would rather have 8% or more so the trick is to try to keep the weight lower!
