Thanks for the input Charlie and Jack. Two testimonials in a row that show if done properly, EZ-Lube is a good system, and it works. I'll add my own. It's quick, it's easy, and I've had zero leakage or issues with the rear seals. I'd prefer Nev-R-Lube sealed bearings, which are maintenance free, but the EZ-Lubes are the next best thing to me.

I used the EZ system the 1st time I repacked, if that's the term, on my last trailer. Other then using a tube+ of grease it seemed to work ok. I did have a little grease leaking out from one of the grease caps for the next couple months, looked like spin art on the tire. Probably my fault, although I followed the directions, but that's what happened.

There is quite a bit of excess due to the void in the cavity under the cap. I just wipe it out with a rag shaped into a point, removing as much as possible. Seems to eliminate any spin off.

I see that thread drift is alive and well.. the original question was specific and limited to cleaning out old grease in the spindle, but the discussion has broadened to the relative merits and use of the EZ-Lube system (which has been discussed at length in prior threads). If the EX-Lube system was the topic of this thread then I would mention that it is very easy to use it improperly, and that can (and did) cause grease to get past the rear seal and end up on the brake shoes. But that would be another topic.

Ya, but it's a pretty mild case of thread drift.

Glad to see you're back.. It seems to me that it is inevitable that the inner bearing is going to push some "used" grease, the dark stuff you pushed out, into the EZ Lube hole. I suspect removing the zerk would make things worse. I think your initial approach of injecting grease until clean grease appears is a good way to go. That is unless all these testimonials have caused a change of heart. Good luck, Raz
