Ford fuel tanks problem.

Ford is being sued for fuel tank lining, models from 1999 to 2008.

Interesting. The article says that dealers are aware, but at least one comment says otherwise. Hummm.

Allegations of manufacturers denying or ignoring quality/warranty issues appears to be common. I suspect it has gone on forever but because of the internet it is much easier to find out about it. Apparently recalls are only required with safety issues. Other manufacturing problems rely on good faith to be addressed. In looking for a new tow vehicle I have run across these kind of issues with every manufacturer I looked at. Nissan, Honda, Subaru, ......... Raz

I believe it is a corrosion protective liner/coating in a steel fuel tank. Water is always present to various degrees in any fuel and with presence of ubiquitous oxygen can cause tank corrosion especially on liquid to vapor interface. Flaking of this coating can cause havoc in fuel injection system. There are special aftermarket products to redo problem tanks.

It's been a while since I've seen a metal gas tank on a car or light truck, certainly the plastic ones have no lining.

There would be no reason for plastic tank to have liner, I agree. So they must be talking about steel tanks. I think that my F350 diesel tank is steel but I am not going to bet on this.
