Question hitch height for scamp 16?

Scamp salesman told me to set up my hitch height at 17-18" despite scamp booklet listing apx. height of 21". He said booklet is wrong and said 17" is probably best for better gas milage plus for a 2001 trailer whose suspension would be sinking. I grilled him on this and he stayed firm. I suggested that he might be thinking of a scamp 13 but he insisted on this as the best height for a 16. Is this true? What height do others run at?

The best hitch height is the one where the trailer pulls level, if not possible a slight nose down is ok,

I suggest that you go with 17 to 18" height the adjust if needed. Draw bars are pretty cheap.

Best hitch height is individual to each trailer based on age, tires and axle. Nothing is written in concrete. What you need to pull level or slightly nose down on your trailer?

21 is way too high, I settled with 18 and it works out level and tow smoothly.

If I recall right, mine is at 20 7/8 inches high* before the trailer is hooked up. The trailer causes the tugs rear end to drop about one inch. This results in a near perfectly level trailer.

Guess you won't know until you get there, but you should be able to get close and then fine tune it as needed.

* this is to the TOP of the ball.. make sure we are talking apples and apples.

I would be glad to offer an opinion, but I replaced my axle with a Flexiride and 14" wheels and tires so that I could adjust the ride height to fit my VW.
Mine comes out to about 18" after I have used the airbags to level the car.
