Our first 100 mile interstate drive. Average might 36.5 might indicated, not calculated. Cylinder management is marvelous.

Might in my previous post should be miles per gallon. I was not towing the Scamp, probably later this month for Scamping.

It had to be non-towing. If anyone could get 36 mpg while towing a Scamp with a minivan, we would all buy one of those minivans!

There probably are diesels that could at least be close to 36 mph

Norm.... I believe you are right. A Jetta or Golf TDI could probably get that kind of mileage towing a small egg.

What speeds were you going at to accomplish 36+mpg?

My plan is to drive home. Fill up the Odyssey and compare calculated to displayed mpg to estimate the accuracy of the Odyssey's mpg readout.

At some point we'll take the Scamp out and determine the mpg. Our Scamp is basically always loaded, actually if there's electricity we never shut it off. I doubt long grades will be an issue with this engine but the nice part is they have long down grades. Coming back from Crater Lake we topped 30 mpg.

I'm having a hard time imagining what kind of mileage we'll get not knowing how ECO mode will function when towing.
With the CRV we got about 70% of Interstate mpg, 30 mpgs Highway, 22 towing. Of course we had a manual transmission and free wheeling was used on downhills when safe and possible.

Wayne, In part I wish we had bought a VW TDI to see how well one could tow a Scamp 16.

Wonderful First Trip

We drove down to visit RV friends near Cape Cod in our new Odyssey taking mostly I-495. The trip down the Honda reported mileage of 36.5 mpg. This trip was an early morning drive with normal traffic. The trip back was during rush hour and when we reached the gas station back in NH the Odyssey was showing 34.2 mpg for the trip to the Cape and back.

We filled up to check the accuracy of the Odyssey's mpg gauge, honestly expecting the Odyssey's gauge to be high.

The Odyssey took 5.1 gallons and we had driven 189 miles for an average of 36.47 mpg. This is an amazing number for a 4500 pound, 6 cylinder vehicle with an automatic transmission burning regular gas, not premium or diesel.

This equates to a 750 mile range with our 21 gallon tank. Obviously something we would never attempt but amazing.

Our next test will be towing and we are certainly curious how the Odyssey will tow our Scamp 16.

Those are very impressive numbers especially considering the smallish American gallons.
