Awesome, thank you. I知 using a scan gauge also, I believe the pid I知 logging is the one reading at the torque converter. It reacts quickly unlocked and under load.

So far I have only done drain and refills, so I知 only replacing a gallon or so of fluid at a time.

My big concern was the tranny when I went from 17 Casita to a 21 escape. I have a V8 4wd rated to tow #7000, it seems to handle the load well enough.

I've been towing with my RAV4 V6 Sport for ten years. I have no scan gauge. I have all service done as scheduled. I suffer no anxiety about numbers.

We towed our 2014 Casita FD17 with a 2014 4Runner. We put about 30,000 on the Casita, mostly in the west, including many trips over the Rockies. I feel it was the perfect tow vehicle for the Casita 17. We towed in 4th gear and used the cruise control extensively. I found that in 4th, the transmission shifted much less, but gas mileage was not noticeable affected. When we bought our Escape 21, we felt safer with more power and bought the Tundra.

We have 2017 4Runner TRD Pro pulling a Lil Snoozy, unweighed but estimated at 3000 pounds. Tongue weight measured at 320 pounds. This model is part time 4WD (not all wheel drive) so towing is almost always in two wheel drive. There is barely any rear suspension sag.

So far after about 12,000 miles of east coast, Appalachians, Midwest, Great Plains, and Rockies there have been no problems at all. Gas mileage towing at about 62-63 mph is about 15.5 mpg. There have been no sway problems at all and I prefer the body-on-frame construction for towing.

We have towed in both overdrive and in 4th but almost always in 4th now. Highest transmission fluid temperature out (before cooler) is about 230 F.

Towing up hills in the east on almost any Interstate highway is easy at 65 mph. Steepest hills are easy going 60 mph at 3500 rpm. In the Rockies at high elevations, e.g. 9000 - 11,000 feet you have to slow down and downshift. If you don't like that, go to a Denver dealer and get the supercharger installed for $7500. I don't think it is necessary but might change my mind if I lived at altitude.

I think the 4Runner is a great tow vehicle for this size trailer and have no regrets.

How does 4Runner Toyota tow ?

Vehicle size is subjective. That is why manufacturers make different sizes. I always drove small vehicles until I was introduced to the Ford Expedition. Ours is the 5.4 V8. It pulls the Lil Snoozy at 3200 lbs loaded with ease. 14-15 mph towing and 21-22 not towing. It is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. It is big but will fit in a common parking space.
