Hunter Compact 11 Bearings

I don't know if this has been posted before but, just purchased new bearings and seal for my original drop axle. Timken brand bearings part # TIML44643. Seal part#NAT204029. I was told that they bought out several companies. I hope that helps anyone that has a compact. Mine is a 1974 model

Out of curiosity, could you look on those bearings and see if they're manufactured in China? Thanks.

Yep, Scamp uses them as well. Although Chinese bearings have come a long way, coming from a mechanical/machinist background, I still prefer American-made bearings.

From experience, I feel the "china" grease may be a culprit in a lot of situations (Dexter uses a good grade of grease they tell me).

Case-in-hand on grease: I bought a Harbor Freight lathe/mill combo. After a few years, the bearings got really LOUD. I replaced them. But what I found in tear-down was the china grease had become "rocks"...no lubricity what so ever. If they had been properly lubed, I'm sure the original bearings would still be running.

Never thought of this before , but a bearing manufacturer has no idea what the bearing is going to be used for. It might be used in a bakery oven conveyor or a ciculation fan in a blast freezer or on the axle of a trailer. Perhaps one should flush out the factory grease and repack with a good quality grease suited to the application , before installation ?
