"I think it is too heavy."
Laura

Our Scamp 16 weighs 2400 pounds fully loaded for extended travel. I think this is a typical Scamp 16 weight. Our tongue weight is about 200 lbs.

We have towed everywhere in the USA and Canada without any issues. We tow with a 4 cylinder, 2.4 L Honda CRV. We do down shift on long hills however we don't see it as a problem. Most of our travels we are in 5th gear.

A number of people pull Scamp 16s with 4 cylinder vehicles.

I think the 4 door Wranglers are called Unlimited.

Yes I know what you mean about the gas milage. Jeeps do not get very good. My husband added a chip hoping that would help. We gained only about 1 to 2 miles per gallon. I am begining to think we need to get a different tow vehicle, rather than another travel trailer.

It all depends on the wind. Anywhere from 12 to 18 mpg.

we are towing with a 2004 tj 6cyl 5speed..........it is not good on gas at all....not alot of power to spare..so slow down take your time.......the jeep does may things, some of the tasks it does not very well at all...but the roof and doors come off, and it is so much fun to drive....get the brakes, can t hurt........enjoy your jeep...and don t forget the jeep wave!

Thanks to all for the input. The problem was solved today as we traded the Wrangler Unlimited for a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemi engine, 6000 lbs towing. Much nicer ride and a lot more stuff inside. I really like it. Now we can get our 16' egg.

Sorry to break into your Jeep post here, but reading that he has a 3.7L!

We pull ours with a 2.5L in our Subaru. Won't win any drag races, but does just fine.

If you can find some straight-up-and-down bars for your Subie grille, we could declare it an "honorary Jeep".

I know this is old but we towed a 13ft Scamp with a 2 door JK so your 4 door would do fine with that size. I'm not sure about stepping up to the 16 but the additional wheel base will allow a longer trailer than the 2 door.

Hi John: We have traded the 4 door wrangler for a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemmi. We are looking at a Lil Snoozy to pull behind it. We think this will be a good combination.

Should be just right! you will likely feel as though they were meant for each other!
