Jeep Liberty a good towing vehicle for a light trailer

Is a Jeep Liberty 3.7 a good tow vehicle for a light trailer?

You might want to check your owner's manual to see what it is rated at. The tow ratings can vary considerably with different powertrains and tow package.

I used my 2004 Jeep Liberty (3.7) to tow a 2005 13' Scamp Deluxe for 18,800 miles over 7 years of western mountains. I thought it was great and I never had a complaint.

Then I sold the Scamp and I've been sad ever since.

Should be fine, but you may find it somewhat sluggish. I test drove one and noticed that it didn't have near the zip my Highlander 3.5L had. 5000 lb tow capacity, I believe.

The Lite House is about as light as they come, but is that an actual weight when loaded?

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

I came across a free vehicle scale that allowed me to determine that my 2005 13’ Deluxe Scamp weighed in at 1880 pounds including a tongue weight estimate of 164 pounds. Included is 12 gallons of water and about 200 pounds of food, clothing, and tools. That makes a dry weight of 1580 pounds. (Lesson: Scamp’s literature tends towards underestimates.)

I use an 03 Liberty sport as my TV. I don't have any real complaints about it. THe only time I really noticed any lag was when I was going up long steep hills (14-17% grade and 10km or so). I would have to gear down to 4th and occasionally down to 3rd. Lucky we don't face much of those kinds of hills.

I weighed my 13' boler and it came in just under 1500 lbs loaded - water food and all. Just be aware that there is a difference in towing capacity between the auto and the standard transmissions. I believe the auto is rated at a VERY generous 5000 lbs while the standard 5spd is limited to 3000 lbs.

From what I've read on Liberty forums you should stay away from pulling anything close to the 5000 lb rating even with the auto tranny. Too much chance of getting pushed around not to mention the wear and tear on the TV.
