I've been pulling my 2005 13' Scamp deluxe for 5 years plus with my 2005 Jeep Liberty (3.7 L 4WD). The Scamp totals at #1800 loaded for travel.

The Trip to Backus from the Seattle area, without the trailer, was made in three and a half days, averaging 20.7 miles per gallon. Most of the 1,650 mile return trip, pulling the 13 Scamp, was made at 16.3 mpg. The return took four and a half days. We covered some serious mountains and drove through some serious windstorms. The trailer pulled well at the posted truck speed limit, mostly 60 or 65.

I tow with a Liberty 2wd, 2006, 6 banger. I have the special model set up specifically for towing with a special rear end, all the coolers etc. It is rated at 5k. "Standard Libby has a 3500 lb rating.

I tugged my 17 foot Burro with it for 3 years at 3k lbs and currently tow a stick built with a dry weight of 1800.. haven't finished moving in yet, but will weigh it loaded soon.

We have two vehicles we use to tow: '04 Dodge Dakota and '04 Jeep Liberty.
Both are 4X4 and have the same V6 engine.

The truck gets used more 'cause we can throw more stuff in back. It also has a smoother ride - longer wheel base.

The Jeep gets better mileage. It is set up with the factory tow package with a GTW of 5,000. If it were our only TV we would be happy.

Love Jeeps

I've towed my Trillium with both of my Jeeps so far with no problems, 1994 Wrangler and 1952 Willys. At the moment I only have a photo of the Willys towing (parked in route) the U-Haul to post.

I tow our 16' Scamp SD with a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It has the factory tow package (transmission cooler, class III hitch, 7-way 12v). There was no plug and play harness for a brake controller so I had to wire that. After subtracting about everything imaginable it still comes in at about 4,000 lbs. tow capacity. It tows beautifully and the ride is very comfortable!

Jeep Grand Cherokee I-6

Dee and I have towed all our trailers with our Jeep. A 16' Scamp, 13' lil' Bigfoot, 17' Bigfoot, and now our 16' HILO. No problems at all. we made a 10,000 mile crosscountry trip with the lil' Bigfoot. Always gets good milage.
