I am looking for the # of my axle on a 73 Love Bug. Any ideas of the # Or were to look. I see lot sof rust and no numbers

The axle on my 1988 was original when I purchased it. There was a serial number tag riveted right in the middle, viewable from underneath and the backside. It was covered in layers of dirty roadrash. I had to crawl under with a rag and wipe off the grime to find it. Perhaps the one on your trailer is similar?
