Trailer: 1993 Bigfoot 17 ftCB / 2003 Honda Odyssey
Posts: 231
Hi;
For information that may give an idea of how much a load a 17.5 Bigfoot is, being towed by a Honda Oddyssey, I present my 'Trip to Dayton'!
My TT is under 3500 pounds (1580 kg), which is the max load for my Oddyssey. I tipped the scales at 8230 pounds (3740 kg) gross (Trailer and Minivan) at a weigh scale with full propane, standard stuff loaded and 1/2 full water, grey and black water tanks. I normally travel tanks empty. The Gross recommended max for the Honda is 8265 pounds (3750 kg) so I am close, but under the max recommended.
I have aux transmission and steering fluids coolers, electric brakes, WD Hitch and a Tekonsha P3 brake controller.
The trailer performs very well with the Honda and I can hold highway speeds well.
However, it does suck gas!
Here are the numbers for 1100 miles or 1760 km.
12.5 Miles per US Gallon
15 Miles per Canadian Gallon
19 liters per 100 km.
(My 'normal' gas consumption - no trailer, is pretty close to half that, on the highways!)

Gas prices averaged $3.85 per US Gallon in USA
and about $4.75 per US gallon in Canada ($1.25 per liter)!

So, Gang, plan your trips accordingly!

You did not mention what speed you travel at. I have found that MPH contributes more to low MPG more than the load you towing. The Escalade averages about 15 MPG, but thats for never towing above 60 MPH.

Last month I had gone from Montréal to Washington and Mystle Beach: 3800 km.
I have a Chevrolet Uplander (the short one) with a Trillium 13 ft, 2 bikes on the top pf the car.
I made 14.5 l/100km at 95 hm/h (60 m/h). With notting in tow, I usualy use 9.5 l/100km at the same speed.
