We have removed the wheel and hub and confirmed the size of the spindle, ordered the parts (!!) and they have arrived. Soon we will try to install them!

I'm in the process of installing new brake assemblies/hubs on mine. The one thing no one seems to have mentioned is wiring. Since I'm replacing, my wires are already there. Since you are adding, you will need to add them aswell. Also the brake assemblies (backing plate) I ordered did not come with hardware. Go figure. The old nuts had no washers. Seems odd. Locktite or distorted thread perhaps? I replaced the nuts with new and added lock washers. Odd size, 7/16" NF. Raz

Hmmm, I don't know what a Scamp 13 axle is supposed to look like at rest, but do you have any spring left in that old Gal? The axle on my 16 (I know, different set up) was not that far up and was maxed out seized up tight. I had no spring other than soft tires at all when I towed her home. A new axle (3500 lb with 10" brakes) and all is well again.

Your picture does give me an idea though. I wonder if my old brake hubs and stuff would bolt right on the non-brake axle like that. Might be able to hook somebody up.

I don't think there is a problem with the torsion arm... the manual says it should be 22.5 degrees down. It might look a little different because it's resting only on one wheel now while its jacked up on this side. Does anyone else think it looks like it has a problem?

uh oh. I'm starting to have a sinking feeling about this. it's only 9 years old though, that doesn't seem likely that the axle would be bad already....

Again, I don't know what a Scamp 13 axle is supposed to look like but that is a picture of a spindle that is UP some degrees. It most certainly is not DOWN 22.5 or any other degrees for that matter. It either has some spring in it or not. Can you jack up on just the spindle (carefully to not damage it) and does it move? And, this is a torsion axle so what goes on on one end (off the ground or not) has little to no bearing on what happens on the other end. Please, please figure this out before you spend time and money adding brakes to this axle. I hope there is not a problem but from just what I see I suspect there is.

I've just sent the pic off to Scamp to ask them. Thanks. I think I'll start a new thread and just ask about this.

Old Gal? the trailer if the profile is correct is less than 10 years old. Thats a baby! LOL

Looking at the photos though the angle of arm/spindle does seem a bit odd but wondering if it has to do with how the trailer has been jacked up? Does not seem to be jacked up on the trailers main beam but by the arm/spindle? ... which may account for the way it looks??? not sure .....

Thanks, as always, this forum is the BEST!
Not sure of the difference, but I have the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 and am very satisfied with its performance and adjustability. Pulling a 16' Scamp with a Nissan Frontier...
