New axle quick question about the brakes

Time to finally finish up the wiring. Got my correct axle finally. So I noticed there are 2 wires for the brakes its not marked which is positive and which is negative. So I assume I just pick one to be positive and run it up to my 7 pin plug? Also Ground should I run it to my trailer frame or up to the plug as well? I'm thinking the plug as well.

My ground is connected to the frame on both sides and also tied together so should 1 ground go bad, it will get it from the other side.

The hot wires come together under the camper and one wire goes up to the connector.

The wire you run from you plug to the brakes is typically blue. I would go #12. That is over kill, but hey, it's your brakes. The other wire is ground. I never use the trailer frame for ground, (though it is connected to ground). I always run a separate white wire for that, tied to the trailer frame. Right back to the trailer plug.

Everything David says here is the way I do it too. Grounds are critical, things don't work well (or work at all) if you scrimp on the ground.

Did you have or plan to install a breakaway switch? this must be installed in the positive line used on the brake coil.

I am using 10 gauge for all wiring.
I did not think of a breakaway switch. Hmm wonder if checkers has any.

I wouldn't doubt Checkers has them, but might have to order one in.

According to the Dexter brake-equipped axle instructions at this E-trailer link, your presumption is correct: the magnets don't care which wire you choose to be hot/not.

My advice per ground would be to use the main trailer ground, and with the same gauge ground wire used in the rest of the rig.
