New tug break-in?

Christmas is here early this year for me - I pick up my new 2014 subaru Outback tomorrow!

I got it with the factory hitch, and with the factory hitch you also get a 4-pin wiring connection. I am having them rewire it with a 7 pin and with some luck they'll match the pattern to my current Forester (which I left there with the service guys) so I don't end up activating the trailer's brakes when I hit a turn signal on the new car.

ANYWAY, blah blah blah. I have heard a dozen different stories on the new car break in thing from you don't have to do it on modern cars to if you don't, you'll destroy your fuel efficiency for good, and everything in between.

The dealership manager gave what sounded like a standard recommendation to vary the speed a lot for the first 1000 miles. The sales guy I worked with thinks that's old-fashioned advice.

What do you guys do with a new tug? I am figuring I'll split the difference and avoid towing for the first thousand...?

Read the manual.

Mine had specific recommendations for break-in while towing although I don't recall if they specified a break-in period prior to towing (I bought used).

I would be inclined to break in the vehicle prior to towing myself.

My new truck had 38 miles on it when I towed my Scamp for the first time. I just took it easy for the 40 mile round trip. Second time, drove a couple of hours, again taking it easy and that was a couple hundred miles round trip. The dealership said, break-in wasn't necessary just take it easy. YMMV
