My Surfside came with a larger, heavy hitch and some sway bars. I'm wondering if there is any advantage to using them? I have tried to follow the sway bar topic but it seems to refer more to newer equalizers/wdh etc. And if there is an advantage - what is the correct way to attach the bars?

I'm towing with a 97 2dr Ford Explorer (shortish wheelbase).

Thx!

Since you have them I'd install them -- Not needed but I think you will find towing is a lot smoother.

Go to hitch manufacturer's web site and download instructions or call 1-800 number.

I might add that using spring bars rated significantly higher than your tongue weight can lead to frame or trailer tire damage if you equalize the entire hitch weight, and transverse concave road conditions (dips, entering or leaving ramps/driveways, etc.

The relative angle of the TV vs. the trailer causes the spring bars to WAY over equalize the hitch weight to the point there are many examples of the chain saddles or the trailer frame failing.

You CAN get lighter spring bars for most WDHs.
