I think I may have posted this pic before. This was my Dad's rig 1978.

1971 Mercury Montery 429c.i. 4 barrel 11-1 compression. Used premium gas only. Basically a police interceptor engine! 24" foot Terry sticky trailer in tow.

So if you need a new chassis or anything to modernize the suspension, brakes, whatever, here's a link for a company that can set you up in modern style with an old clunker!

How about a 1995 Buick Roadmaster wagon with 94k miles. Air ride suspension. Lt1 V8, full factory towing package #5,000 towing capacity seating for 8. Not a better riding or handling wagon out there. It is available in Missouri if any interest.

Would probably work for a glass egg.

A guy on the Airstream forum use a similar Buick with the LT1 V8 to tow a 25' Airstream. He had to replace all the rubber body mounts and front end parts. Didn't work as well as he thought it would.

I remember that body style well. It was super popular with the hot rod+20 years later set, and could look very bad and very cool at the same time. One of my Kodak customers had one that he called "Proud Mary" didn't have to ask why. LOL

Using 76 T-bird for towing 76, 1300 Trillium. Hauls like I have nothing more than a trunk full of luggage.

For the time the big wagons had the best safety features. Full perimeter frames, larger brakes, big gas guzzler engines with allot of torque. Nine passenger seating and room to still pack stuff inside and on top. None of it compares to whats available today. For their time they were king of the road. You were somebody if you had one.

Boy, ain't that the truth! I've got this little Ford Fiesta with like a one liter motor that can hardly get out of its own way. I wish I had one of these Fiestas: 1957 Olds Fiesta station wagon

Hmmmm...Sounds like it's comeback time for the 12 passenger Dodge V-10 Caravan-Vipervan that they never built. But that would sure fill the bill, even if gas was $5 a gallon again, the E-Ticket ride would be worth the price. LOLOLOL

At the Vintage trailer rally held in Lynden Washington each fall they hold a measure off competition to see who has the longest station wagon.

Leave it to someone that has to have a contest about length....

It's not about how long ones waggin might be, it's the skill of the driver that counts.

One of our favorite vehicles was a Ford LTD wagon. It seemed that the engine was barely rotating at speed and could carry a ton, also very reliable but it did suck down fuel.

Interestingly, though large I doubt it could haul (in volume) as much as our Honda Odyssey.

Overall the Ford LTD was a very good station wagon and very reliable.

Along with Pismo its become the go to vintage trailer event here on the West coast with about 150 trailers or more attending each year -number goes up each year - many of them being pulled by equally as vintage tugs.

You can see some pretty cool & rare trailers as well as cars & trucks.

But, isn't this the ideal "Family Vacation" wagon, The Family Truckster?

Sorry, I don't have a pic of it towing my Burro but I figured so what. This is my '59 Ford wagon, V8 (1965 Ford 390 HP) and automatic. Been all the way to the East Coast twice. I also have a '56 Ford F-100. The wagon is used for long runs and the truck is used for anything under 200 miles.
