I didn't say it couldn't happen Donna, just that it never happened to me. Also, I was talking about drilling holes through one piece of steel, not through chassis tubing. I explained how I do holes in chassis tubing above someplace. And sure enough, the ParkLiner has chassis tubing, not channel or angle, so I'm not playing around with that. If nothing else, it would introduce rust!

This was my chain problem folks...

First of all, the bolt wasn't tightened down on the chain. Second of all, what's with the angle of that front bolt? All three bolts are fastened with two nyloks (yes two!), so by golly they sure aren't gonna come un-threaded! I will do my chains thing probably Saturday if it's decent outside. They'll end up hooked to the rear two bolts holding the tongue jack in place, like Deryk's.

I'm not in any big rush anyways, as the next trip with the ParkLiner is to the ParkLiner facility in Gibsonville NC next May. From what I understand, they're gonna move my Optima batteries out from under the bed and install them up front somehow. Gives us an excuse to visit.

Funny someone should mention Casita frame cracks. I think over the years I have seen/heard of four cases of FGRV trailer frames failing at the tongue, and 3 of them were Casita's. Hmmmmmm.... But I may have missed some.

That said, I would never drill into or weld upon the bottom surface of a tongue as that's the area most apt to have structural failure due to stress.

It also looks to me that they have reinforced the area where the bolts go through with an additional plate.

I suspect this is the reason like Byron's Scamp mine has a separate metal plate welded to the frame a few inches below the tongue/coupler that is used only for the chain attachment point.

Yeah Frank, I agree I dont think that was a smart design idea for ParkLiner to depend on 1 bolt to hold the chains in place...but I wonder why it was bent? Any sign of in the past it might have popped off the ball and dragged...only reason I could think that the chains were under a load and it bent the screw.

Well, I haven't had much of a chance to roll around on my poor old back and look under this trailer I've not even had 2 weeks Deryk, but I'll make an effort Saturday! That bolt being bent and being so far out is a mystery to me at this point.

Problem is these darn short days!

Thumbs up

What Brian said about his PL#34 is applicable to our PL#35.

Looks stout and similar to how our (17ft) prior trailer was set up.

I did have to replace the brake-away cable as it got frayed somehow. No biggie, just a trip to Home Depot.

Chuck of Fiberglass Travel Trailers sells the zip breakaway cables as well - even looks like he has a sale going on.

Mine didn't come with a Bragman switch/breakaway cable. I wonder why? And should I add one? Probably right?

I recall from a conversation with Chandler, early in the order process, that they didn't install breakaway switches in the first few units but began installing them in later ones. Don't know at what point they became standard equipment but ours has one. It was not listed as either a standard or optional feature on our original order form.

Ta da da! You win the prize Brian!

I bet mine never had one. Should I add one, and if I do, how does it get hooked in to power? Safety chains aren't enough eh?

Speaking of which, I got a bunch of grade 8 stuff to replace the three bolts and such holding down the jack. Stuff I mocked it up with was not grade 8, and not the right length. That will give me something to do tomorrow (as if I don't have enough other stuff to do). Probably won't pick up the 2-7/8 hole saw till Monday for my 30 amp inlet project, but may start working on that anyways.

Thanks!

Frank

Beyond my range of experience, I'm afraid, but I bet there is someone out here on the forum who knows.

Well Brian, there are instructions here: Breakaway Kit Installation for Single and Dual Brake Axle Trailers | etrailer.com

But maybe I should wait till the batteries get moved, and/or just have ParkLiner install it when I'm down there in May?
