I have a 2014 JGC with the gas V6. The diesel gets better mileage and has a lot more torque (more than the Hemi) but $/mile for fuel, it's about the same as the V6 because diesel fuel is so much more expensive than regular gasoline. Plus the diesel costs $4k plus requires another $3k option package. I recently towed the Snoozy 1000 miles to Alabama and left it there. 16 mpg towing at 65 mph going south, 24 mpg at 78 mph returning north. 4wd gas V6 EPA rated 24 mpg hwy, tows 6200#, 4wd diesel EPA rated 28 mpg, tows 7200 #.

Gasoline with 10% ethanol has 3% less energy content than 100% gasoline.

I tow a 19 foot Escape (4000 pounds) with a 1996 Chevy Tahoe, 5.6L V-8, 4WD. My best towing mileage was 16 mpg --maintaining strict 55-58 mph on I-40, Flagstaff to Albuquerque.

Worst was 11-12 mpg in hill country.

Towing a 16 ft Casita with a 1999 Toyota 4-runner, we can get 18 MPG if the terrain is flat, but in the hills of VT, it goes down to 14-15 MPG.

2004 nissan titan, 19'scamp, loaded including 40 gallons fresh water, 75 mph, 12.5 mpg. That's with intake/exhaust/high performance tune. I could put one of the other tunes on, it takes it from 17 to 20 mpg unloaded if I do, but I don't like the loss of power towing.

19 foot Scamp Deluxe (Name: Little Elsie), 2012 F150 Ecoboost, ate 60-62 mph, 15-16 mpg depending upon the fuel quality, i.e., amount of ethanol. 20-21 mpg not towing at posted speed limits. Truck weight is 5,000+ lbs, Scamp approximately 2,800.

Donna and Jim have it right. I deleted parts of, or whole posts, that were argumentative and off topic. This thread is about what kind of mileage you get, and is not about how you think others should drive. Please do play nice, thanks.

My trip last month from Midland up to Cloudcroft and down to Alamogordo and back averaged a bit over 20mpg. I usually average closer to 20 but I'm almost always at 70mph. Tow into NM means a lot of 65mph and weather was cool enough we didn't have the AC on.

Towing 17' Casita with 03 Dodge/Cummins.
Auxillary tank also gives me about 1200 miles of range (important in West Texas).

With that diesel truck I bet you have to check the mirror to see if the Casita is back there. Great mileage.

Cool Subaru Outback and Trillium 1300

Before we started towing we got 23/24 mpg with our 2000 Subaru Outback.
After we started towing in 2009 we have averaged 20/21 mpg overall.

That maybe the record for the best before/after numbers, impressive! I too have little difference in numbers towing or not, always the same 12 mpg. sometimes it drops!

Wow! Only 23/24 not towing?! We had customers come in reporting 30/31 with outbacks. I guess there were the slow driving type?

Still good MPG towing though.

Jason, who ever told you that must be driving a 2013 or newer Outback to report those kinds of miles! As it wasnt until then that Subaru themselves would claim the car was capable of getting 30 mpg on the highway. Subaru Outbacks have never been good on gas in part due to the full time all wheel drive & their weight.

On my 07 Outback Subaru only claimed it to be good for 20 city 26 Highway and it generally averages about 22/23 as a daily drive part city part highway. Towing on flat freeways it averages about 19 mpg - add hills and mountain passed into it and the numbers drop......

My '11 legacy is rated 19/26 and gets 24/30. Towing a 4x8 trailer under 500 lbs drops to 20-23 highway.

I guess those people were exaggerating or doing hyper miling. And that was in older....wait, maybe it was a Legacy wagon and not an Outback. But it was back in 2005.

Anyway I thought that mileage was high for AWD and boxer engine.

Nissan pathfinder

Does anyone tow with a Nissan pathfinder 2013-2014 I drove one the other day It showed 27-30 mpg at 60 mph not towing the EPA is 20-26 mpg This might be a good TV. The sticker shock is unbelievable 30k-45k for a SUV Wow . We still have 07 Toyota Sequoia but mpg is 15-19 towing about 14-15 mpg .
We could recoup about $1000 a year on gas alone but I can buy a lot of gas for that price ?

You say it showed 27-30. I assume you mean one of the gauges that monitor miles per gal.
I have found that these gauges are only useful for the purpose of monitoring how efficient you are driving (utilizing your fuel) and serve almost no usefulness in determining your actual mpg. If you didn't start out with a full tank. Drive it. Refill it. Divide the # of gal. into the total miles driven. You will have almost no real idea of your mpg.
I, obviously, have OCD as I have monitored EVERY tank of fuel on every vehicle I have owned (with exception of race cars which I monitor by running TIME) for the last 47 years. During this time my actual mileage seldom correlated with the on gauge monitors on those vehicles that had them.
