Just returned from a 7 week, 10376 mile tour of the rockies trip went well untill Kremmling Co. I ran off the edge of the road {my fault} what happened next was unreal both rims blew out! yes rims not tires. had to drag the 5er 1/4 mile down the road on axle to get it off the road. After a close look at the rims includeing spare came to the conclusion it was old rims {1985} stress cracks . So please check your rims you dont whant this to happen to you!! the good thing about it , I jacked the trailer up put 2 new rims on it and finished my trip .

Wow! Losing BOTH wheels. What are the odds of that? By stress cracks, do you have alloy wheels or did you have cracks where the steel wheels were welded? This is going to make me take a closer inspection on my wheels. Glad to hear you were able to resume your trip.

What? You carry three spares around? Or do the wheels from your car fit your trailer? Or were you near a source of rims?

I was wondering if there was any possibility that this might have been caused by the bad valve stems that were posted here last year.

Thomas-- did you happen to take any pictures of the wheels? Be interesting to see how they failed.. After many years involved with the tire business (and the auto wrecking business), I have seen many wheel failures. THANX Larry
