That said, always verify the exact specifications for your vehicle with the owners manual or the manufacturer. (Not the verbal say-so of the service guy at the dealership)

Moderators: Should this be a sticky???

I have a push bar on my Ranger for a reason...to push cars.
Mostly old cars but not antiques. (80s & 90s).
Have done so many times without damage, even on styrofoam bumpers with rubber covers.
This activity often requires a little instruction for the driver being pushed in order to do so safely over any distance.

IllAnnoy has recently made it illegal to push a vehicle further than required to get out of immediate harms way. This may affect how far I will push one in the future. Still gotta get'em inside the shop or onto an occasional trailer though.

It is still legal to tow with a chain however. Another activity where some skill is required for both drivers.

And, if you are interested in searchable trailer Weight ratings, I (with Frederick's permission) maintain an Excel spreadsheet that can be sorted by trailer size, brand, etc., and calculate averages, maximum & minimum, and so on. Trailer Weights at LakeshoreImages.

Feel free to email me the results of your weighing so I can add to the list.

What I needed was a way to say: 1) I have a trailer that weighs X pounds. 2) Which vehicles will tow that trailer?
Most of the information I've seen let me choose a vehicle first. I can't see how that's particularly useful or efficient.
I did come across this however. It's somewhat out of date but if the table was updated, indexed and accurate it would be most useful.

The link to the searchable tow ratings database appears to be broken. Try this one instead: https://www.goodsamnetwork.com/sharedcode/towrating/
