Good Idea

I know of several Toyhome owners that pull a scooter, like a Vespa, on a small trailer.
BTW: You don't want to hang that electric bike on the back bumper. The frame extensions are not designed to hold any extra weight.

Unhappy Not the good old days

Welcome to the world of high mileage vehicles. Weight is one of the biggest factors affecting mileage and lighter components are not as strong as their predecessors.

I remember the days when you could push one car with another because the bumpers, frames, everything was massive.

Yep, and those were the days when cars truly were "Unsafe at Any Speed". Didn't last 100,000 miles, tires barely lasted 10,000 miles and exhaust systems were a consumable item.
Thanks, but no thanks.

That said, always verify the exact specifications for your vehicle with the owners manual or the manufacturer. (Not the verbal say-so of the service guy at the dealership)

Moderators: Should this be a sticky???
The data base has no provision for lighter trailers 1000 to 2300 lbs and no adjustment for lower cars with a 8% tongue requirement; or listing for cars. Many at this web site pull light weight trailers, 10' 12' 13' 14' or 17' and are well under the 2500 lb limit of this table. It would be good to get or make one for our fellow members. It could have base ratings and upgraded ratings such as with and without tow package. wd, brakes, tansaxle cooler, hp, wheel base, even experienced uses would gain this would be hard to make so many factors such as hills and how steep is ok; our area has a lot of steep hills we go up and down them a lot. One is even so steep on rainy days the car tires can slip at the top while empty, (would never try to pull up it with a trailer in any TV it is that steep.

The year pull down now goes up to 2013.

While not perfect, it provides some general guidelines. Again, one always has to refer to the owners manual for the specific manual to get actual values

I have a push bar on my Ranger for a reason...to push cars.
Mostly old cars but not antiques. (80s & 90s).
Have done so many times without damage, even on styrofoam bumpers with rubber covers.
This activity often requires a little instruction for the driver being pushed in order to do so safely over any distance.

IllAnnoy has recently made it illegal to push a vehicle further than required to get out of immediate harms way. This may affect how far I will push one in the future. Still gotta get'em inside the shop or onto an occasional trailer though.

It is still legal to tow with a chain however. Another activity where some skill is required for both drivers.

And, if you are interested in searchable trailer Weight ratings, I (with Frederick's permission) maintain an Excel spreadsheet that can be sorted by trailer size, brand, etc., and calculate averages, maximum & minimum, and so on. Trailer Weights at LakeshoreImages.

Feel free to email me the results of your weighing so I can add to the list.
