Small and lite TV and TT.

What small live-in trailer can I tow with a 2011 Mazda 2.
I'm trying to remain as small and lite as possible.

Your owners manual will tell you what the car is rated to tow and the thread Trailer Weights in the Real World will help in determining what trailers loaded fit into its towing spec.

Small-light-Live-in...hard to think of any TT that would fit into a "Live-in" category unless you add in"cramped" and "uncomfortable".

Mazda 2 Towing

As mentioned, look in your owners manual for a towing specification for your specific vehicle.

I searched several sites, including Mazda and, when a towing spec was shown for the Mazda 2 the space was blank. The larger base Mazda Tribute for that same year is rated at 1500 lbs and the Mazda 2 is much smaller and has a lot less power.

Basically, if the mfgs. spec sez "Do Not Tow" or has very limited capacity, like 500 lbs, there's nothing in FGRV's that will meet your needs.

Let us know what your manual sez and good luck hunting.

Thomas... I could see a Mazda 3 set up to tow a glass egg type of trailer but the 2 series is quite a small vehicle. You may be limited to something like a teardrop style of trailer. Not what you are probably looking for.

There are also small tent trailers typically used by motorcycles. You might look into those.

But even a 13 ft. FGRV is very cozy (or cramped) for two people to live in full time. People do it but it takes a certain mindset to make it work. And it sounds like the weight of a 13 ft. would be beyond your vehicle.

A teardrop sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I won't be living in it permanently, just traveling around the country using my golden age pass in the national forests, until I find a place I want to settle down in.
I like the one pictured.

If you are handy, you can build one. The are a lot of different plans and layouts on the web that are usually built on a utility trailer frame or a salvaged tent trailer frame.

Lots of good info here. Check out the "foamie section" they are built out of 2" foam covered with canvas.

There are some companies that make them. Here are two that might give you an idea of prices and features. Teardrop Travel Trailers by Camp-Inn and Little Guy Teardrop Trailers | be different.

How could I forget EggCamper Molded Fiberglass teardrop made right here in Mich.

I did notice that EggCamper teardrop was stated as 1400 lbs. nicely equipped, a little heavy I fear for the proposed tow vehicle. I think Pro Lite makes some lighter weight models.

Here's the entire line of Prolites. But 550 lbs won't stay that low for long.

low weight and low price on this little trailer......

RunawayCampers.com - 2014 Special Editions

these are made in florida and start at $2,500 and weigh less than 700 pounds.

certainly not designed to be lived in but looks like a nicely made unit for the money.

real tear drops typically cost 2 or 3 times more than this one.

I have no connection to the company, just like the simplicity of this little box.

Those are fairly bare-bones. If you want something a bit more livable, check out Little Guy trailers - they have a variety of teardrop trailers of varying levels of options available.

I have a Little Guy T@G that I take to car rallies. It weighs around 1000 lbs and has a comfortable queen bed, air conditioner, a tv, battery, LP tank ,12v refrigerator, LP cooktop and a sink with a small fresh water tank.

Also look at how far back the axle is my cousins small air stream has a 400 plus tongue weight due the axle placement so far back and yet our boler one adult can pick the tongue up with battery and propane tanks removed and walk with it difference is important when towing with a car. (both are the same size trailers) also the gross weight of the airstream is more.

also remember that trailer weight and tongue weight is just part of the towing equation but the real killer is the frontal area drag. The teardrops are pretty good but some like my old Ventura are very bad and require quite a bit of HP to pull down the road. I get better mileage towing my Casita 17SD than the Ventura 13. The Mazda may be able to tow the weight put cannot handle the drag.
