some of our TV and trailers

We have lived in trailers for short periods of time and they varied from a 1954 model 37' to a later airstream and have owned a Scamp, a Casita, an R-Pod and now a 19' Escape. (our last) We'll see you all in Oregon. Jack and Nancy

What were you using to tow the Scamp 13?

We towed the 13' Scamp from SFO area all over the west coast, the rockies and to OKC and points between with the '81 VW rabbit 5 speed, '28 Ford roadster hot rod with a Buick V-6 engine or a '38 Ford sedan with original 85 HP V-8. The '38 was 6 volt so no trailer brakes, had to be careful. The 17' Casita was towed with a Ford 150 supercrew, the R-pod was towed behind a Honda Ridgeline V-6. We're now towing the Escape 19 with a new Jeep Grand Cherokee 2-wheel drive with the Hemi V-8. This last rig is very effective and after 30 years of all combinations we like this one the best.

Great photos, thanks for sharing. Does your Jeep Grand Cherokee 2-wheel drive with the Hemi V-8 come with a tranny cooler and trailer hitch? And what does the manual say the tow rating is? Thanks in advance. Those are sure nice looking cars, and that engine sounds perfect.

Edit: Does the rear suspension hold up to 2 full propane tanks of your trailer or do you need a WDH hitch to keep the sag level.

Ken, the Jeep lists 7400# tow cap. with 350#min(?) and 1110 max tongue wt.
We carry two fold-up bikes and a 2000 Honda gen, plus tools and etc. in the back while towing. I work at having 350# on the tongue, my min. The engine has all the cooling packages plus the class IV hitch and big tires and brakes, all in a shorter overall size. I get 22mpg not towing and 15 to16 towing the 3500 to 3700# of the 19 Escape. The engine shuts down 4 cyl. when not needed and only turns 1600 to 2000 rpm. Needless to say we are happy with this new vehicle after 13000 miles.
