I learned that the hard way on a number of years ago when vehicle the break controller was installed in (by pros) was not sealed or if it was the product they used failed - only discovered it when someone got into the passenger side of the vehicle and took their ski boots off & found carpet on the floor was wet!!
The opening that was there was tiny enough to let a drip in at a time - the water was getting into the engine area from a location one might expect it to cause no harm but from there it was then running down the after market line that was pushed through the fire wall.
When I lifted the carpet out to dry it I realized due to the amount of rust on the floor of the vehicle it had been leaking for some time!
