Tires for RVs

Just curious, can mud tires like Mickey Thompson Tires' Baja MTZ P3 used in RV's?

If it's an LT tire, which it appears to be, then yes, it may be used, subject to having the appropriate weight rating for the trailer. Trailer tires have stiffer sidewalls than passenger car tires (P); not sure of the difference between ST (Special Trailer) and LT (Light Truck) sidewalls.

I note that the OP's profile indicates he has a Newmar. That doesn't sound like an all-molded fiberglass trailer. I'd hesitate to make any recommendation without knowing what we're talking about.

Folks......

Aside from the possible differences in casing structure, perhaps we should be amused by all the "mud" or deep-cleated tires being shown on trailers intended for boondocking, or "off-road" use.

Just how helpful are those cleats on an undriven axle? LOL !

Yep. Just because it's a "mud" tire doesn't mean it has any extra value on a trailer in the mud.

A good solid load range and an easy to get size of LT tire are better considerations than mud vs highway tread, for a tire that is just being towed along. The down side of "mud" tires are that they tend to pick up rocks and throw them, will wear faster than highway tread, have more rolling resistance and are much noisier. But, of course, they look cool.

Isn't that a recommendation?

well, presumably a LT M/T tire on a trailer would have better braking in mud/sand, but I would stick with ST trailer tires.

I do note that my son's all terrain military trailers have heavily lugged tires, one of these is a M989A1 HEMAT, which has 2 axles with 15-22.5 load range H tires.. that trailer has 22000 lb payload, 11000 lb empty, he tows it behind a M925A1 5 ton 6x6.
