Gang;
Boy, am I a Bad safety awareness advocate!
2 years ago I bought a used 1993 Bigfoot 'Egg' - a 17' 1500 CB model!
I had looked at the tires and they looked in really good shape!
I checked carefully and kept the 50 PSI at the right level and ran them for at least 8000 Miles.
I never did read the "Date Code" from the sidewall, as it was on the inside - and I never bothered.
Recently, I pulled the spare to clean it up - having topped up the pressure several times, in my normal 'maintenance'! The actual year number code is a 3 digit number 442 - apparently from 44th week of 1992!
WOW! This is 17 years later!
This trailer had been taken to 2 diferent shops - one to check/repack the bearings, and another to adjust the brakes.
NO-ONE advised me of the 17 year old tires.
You really are on your own!
NEW tires, and rims (Rust has really taken it's toll) are ready tomorrow!
Safety rules!
Of all the 'Hints and Kinks' I have contributed to this group over the last while - how could I have missed this BIGGY?
The good news - my trailer, apparently, has been used far less than most - perhaps that's why it looks as pristine as it does!

If I had to guess, I'd guess that they're '02 tires rather than '92 tires. I doubt that 17 year old tires would have run 8,000 miles. Even as '02 tires, they'd have been due for replacement by now.

Hi Mike,

What brand are the 17 y/o tires?
The old tires were Goodyear Marathon ST205/75R14. Load range C - 1750 lbs [at] 50 PSI.
New ones are DURO Brand Radial DS2100 - same size, same load range and PSI. I checked the MFG Date on these and they were built 28th week of 09.
Apparently, in an old episode of 20/20, some Tire Stores have been found selling 'New' tires that were already a bunch of years old.
Needless to say, I have done some Tire Research since my experience.
The new ones worked fine this last weekend, where I towed about 100 miles each way.
