My Sienna has the factory tow package, but I just added a trans cooler and

going to monitor the temps to see if its a keeper...dont want to over cool the trans. I do use a WDH and friction bar as the camper has a 350 tongue weight and the sienna has a 350 limit. The Sienna does a great job. I bet I could tow an Escape 21 if I got the opportunity

The data has been added to the table. Bob, I assume you don't have Michelins on the trailer, correct? That column in the table is actually for trailer tire brand. A few years ago trailer tire blowouts seemed to be more common and folks were searching for a dependable brand. Now they've upped the speed ratings on many (not all) trailer tires from 65 mph to 75 or higher, so blowouts don't seem to get talked about as frequently (I hope that means less blowouts are occurring).

That's only 8% weight on the hitch. Be careful!

well, i usually do travel with quite a bit of weight under the front bed, cases of beverages, water, etc. This trailer has never shown even a hint of instability, even when I intentionally try and make it sway.

That was exciting to post. Looking forward to updating the towing MPGs!!!

Hi All,

I posted the above in December, 2015 and we had never towed our new to us ‘05 Casita 17’ FD with our new to us ‘09 Kia Borrego Limited V8. Well 3.5 years later having towed over 13,000 miles, here is my mileage:

MPG HWY Towing - 13 mpg plus/minus 1.
MPG HWY Not Towing - 23 to 24.

We bought the Borrego with 83,000 miles on it. It currently has 121,000 miles on it. We hope to keep it until I retire in 3.5 years. It will probably have 150,000 to 160,000 miles on it.

YMMV,

Dean

hah, thats almost exactyl what my 2002 ford f250 7.3 towing a E21 (4200 lbs or so typically loaded) gets, as long as I'm not speeding when not towing

2016 Chevy Colorado 2.8 Diesel 30 mpg Hwy not towing, 7800LB towing capacity

I had a 1997 Bigfoot CB17 and averaged 13 mpg going to Las Vegas and Back.

I now have a 2002 Bonair Oxygen and averaged 23 MPG coming back from Edmonton as well as the Vegas loop again.

The Bigfoot towed like a brick and the Oxygen you don't even know it's there. However the Bigfoot is a far more comfortable trailer to stay in.

There are pros and cons to everything, eh?
