Tow vehicle: AWD Subaru Outback wagon
Engine: 3.0L V6
Trailer: 2005 13 ft Scamp Deluxe w. bathroom
Trailer weight: to be determined on a CAT scale someday
Tongue Weight: 120 lbs? Only carrying 1 propane gas tank
Subaru towing limit: 2,000 lbs
Trailer weight: 1200 dry
Mpg towing/not towing - about the same, est. 20-22 mpg in Canadian Rockies - will retest after I get it out of winter storage
I generally drive mountains on empty water tank, so towing is easy, gas mileage same as not towing, even with kayaks mounted on car top, firewood over car wheelbase, and 3-4 gal. water on back seat floor.

Help
This list would be more valuable if we added more tow rating information. If you know the tow rating of your vehicle's manufacturer's trailer weight and tongue weight in this list, please let me know. It would be of help to others.
I do realize manufacturers numbers are subject to derating for all kinds of reasons.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...6oSPkw/pubhtml
We are now have a lot of beneficial information and hopfully improving it on a regular basis.

For legality purposes, tow caps are ok. Here's my tested scenario.
I have a 99 nissan frontier with 3500 lb cap and it's a 4 cyl. I attempted to "test pull" a 3000lb small Dutchmen stickie when I FIRST got interested in rv'ing. Ha.... it wouldnt get over 50 mph up a slight grade (much less a steep hill)!! Probably as much "sail affect" with the "box" as it was weight....
Honestly? I can pull my 1800lb 13' Scamp without problems. But it still really LABORS up steep grades here in Tennessee. I wouldnt DREAM of getting anywhere near the max 3500 with that truck regardless what the manual states!!! I know some pull 16's without a problem. I still wouldnt do it unless it weighed 2000lbs or less!

Darral,
There is a large difference between towing a flat sided, boxy trailer and a streamlined fiberglass trailer. Our first trailer, a boxy stickie, weighed 15-20% less than our Scamp t got 20% mpg less.
There's no doubt additional horsepower helps on hills as a result steep climbs takes more time.
Our Scamp weighs 2600 lbs and we towed it easily all over North America.

How do you add/change information on the spreadsheet? My listing is on there and I was going to add tongue weight, etc.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be great if we could have a thread for tug/trailer combinations, wherein everyone could add their rig's info?
Perhaps it would be possible to compile it all to a table (similar to "Trailer Weights in the Real World") in the first post. I don't know exactly how to post and to periodically update a table in the forum, but I'd be willing to try it if Frederick or a mod could give me tips. Even without a table, though, it would be nice to have all the info in a single thread.
Each owner of a FGRV (present or past) could enter the following:
1. Year, make, model of vehicle
2. Engine size (examples: 2.2L 4cyl, or 3.3L V6)
3. Trailer make and size (examples: Scamp 13, Escape 5.0) [note: FG eggs only; no stickie trailers]
4. Typical fuel economy: highway towing, and highway non-towing
What do you all think? I'll go first.
2008 Toyota Highlander
3.5L V6
Burro 17'
14.3 mpg towing, 22.5 mpg non-towing

Darral, thns for the good info. You've brought to light a major flaw with the tow rating numbers that are found in the manuals.
As you have found out in your case, and in others too, they have nothing to do with actual on road towing ability or performance. One really needs to do a lot of research on a proposed tow vehicle before jumping in on "tow rating faith", alone.
Darral, what kind of mileage number are you getting towing the Scamp with the Frontier? Thnxs.

Thnx MC1. I average 20 mpg. With a head/tail wind blowing @ apx 20mph, I've seen it vary +/- 2 mpg easy using my ScanGauge. Of course speed also plays a MAJOR factor as it can vary +/- 3-4mpg while running from 40mph to 65!! Ummm with the scangauge, I've also seen it dipping to 8-12'ish mpg range on major hills!! haha.

Trailer/tow vehicle combinations
Latest Update
I have reorganized the columns, moving manufacturer's tow vehicle rating adjacent to the tow vehicle. I have also started a notes section at the bottom to help explain some of the information.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...6oSPkw/pubhtml
Thank you for sending in information to make this possible and thanks to Mike Magee for starting the thread.

Sorting the file
I have modified the file structure to allow people to easily sort the data by moving The data into their own spread sheet where it can be sorted using traditional techniques. This was done at the suggestion of a member.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...6oSPkw/pubhtml
Still looking for Jeep data.

Norm,
both of my Jeep Liberty models were rated 5000/500 lbs capacity. I had a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD diesel which towed at 20 mpg and unhitched 28 mpg. My other 2012 Liberty had the v-6 gas engine and only got 15 mpg towing and 20 unhitched.

It depends on several variables
Tow Vehicle: 2003 Honda Odyssey
Engine: 3.7 liter V-6
Trailer: 1978 Fiber Stream 16'
Trailer weight: - 2006: 2620 lbs
- 2012: 3300 lbs
Tongue Weight: - 2006: 200 lbs
- 2012: 300 lbs
Mpg towing: - 2006: 16 average @ 55 mph
- 2006: 9 @ 70 mph
- 2012: 14 average @ 55 mph
Mpg not towing: Typical towing speed: - 55 mph on cruise control (see mpg towing above)
Misc: - Weight Distribution Hitch (required by manf. for 3500 lb tow rating)
Manf. Tow rating (trailer weight/hitch weight) - without trailer brakes: 1000 lbs/10%
- without weight distribution hitch: 1,850 lbs/10%
- without anti-sway bar: 2000 lbs/10%
with ALL of the above and including the driver- 2 occupants: 3,500 lbs/10%
- 3 occupants: 3,350 lbs/10%
- 4 occupants: 3,200 lbs/10%
- 5 occupants: 3,050 lbs/10%
- 6 occupants: 2,900 lbs/10%
- 7 occupants: 650 lbs/10% (rear GAWR limit)
... assuming each occupant weighs 150 lbs
