Thanks Joe, did you have any fuel economy numbers figured out for when you're towing and when you're not?

Hi Bill, any fuel economy numbers?

Just a reminder to all of the things we can put into this table:
Vehicle year, make
Engine
Vehicle's tow and hitch weight rating
Trailer year, make
Trailer weight
Trailer tire size & brand
MPG towing and MPG not towing
Typical tow speed (helps us put your towing MPG into perspective)

As a bare minimum I'd hope to have your vehicle and trailer make and your MPG numbers. Thanks!

While I'm thinking of it, I may be slow to update the table over the next month because we will be doing more traveling and I won't be at the computer as frequently.

2001 Oxygen dry weight 1650 lbs
2008 Pontiac Montana SV6 3.9L long wheel base with Class 2 hitch, std suspension..no other mods other than tranny cooler and brake controller.
just finished a 3500 km trip and averaged 24 mpg imperial (or 20 US) We only use this vehicle for towing and have never measured the tongue weight although it tows very easy.

Our first reported Oxygen, thanks! 20 mpg is great. The shape works as aerodynamically as it looks.

Have you measured it loaded on the axle though? Would be great info. Dry weights are unfortunately not overly helpful.

Tow Vehicle: 2001 Chev Tahoe with a 5.3 Vortec. I forget the axle ratio, but it's currently on oversized Goodrich All Terrain T/As (20") so I suspect my mileage is minimally understated. Max tow cap is 7900#. Weight of the dog is 110#.

Our trailer is a 2005 Bigfoot 17.5 and although I haven't weighed it, using factory specs + what we carry I estimate 4700# loaded. Not sure what the tongue weight is or the max cap at the moment. We use a WD hitch setup.

Towing mileage was 9.5 for the Maryhill in May trip. Not towing is 14. I tend to keep more toward the passing speeds (rethinking that strategy!). Also planning on going back to stock rim/tire sizes on the Tahoe this summer.

Sorry.. not yet. We don't have a scale in the area.

I have also towed my 17-ft Casita Deluxe (weight 3,000 lbs) with a 2005 Toyota Tundra V8. At speeds of 61-63 mph on a 2300-mile trip I averaged 12.5 mpg. In my previous post I described my experience towing the same trailer with a 2006 Jetta, which averages 25 mpg (max 31 mpg on 400 mile leg) towing at similar speeds.

My 95 Chevrolet Lumina V6 3.8 minivan drops from 30 mpg (canadian) to 15 when I tow my 17' trillium.
When I had the 13 footer I still got about 25. front drag, and what sticks out on the sides makes a big difference

2007 Nitro

I am towing with a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4L, 6cyl. We had bought a Casita 17 with the idea of pulling it with our RAV4. We soon discovered that our RAV4 doesn't have the oomph to tow our trailer and we had to scramble for a tow vehicle that we could afford.

24MPG IMP is amazing. Those Oxygen's are probably one of the most aerodynamic trailers ever built. Even towing our aero Airstream we can only get 18MPG highway, 16 overall, towing with a 3.0 Nissan Van or the 3.5 G35 sedan.

I tow with the exact same vehicle and get just slightly better mileage. My Boler is definitely a bit lighter than a Bigfoot.

I forgot to mention the speed of travel which was 60 miles/hr on the highway, not more.

I've added a bit more data to the table, gleaned from other threads. All are welcome to post their tow vehicle and trailer with MPG numbers (both towing and not towing).
